150 credits is required to take the CPA exams in my state which is equivalent to a Master's degree so in essence you already had a Master's degree, sounds like in accounting, even though you didn't physically receive one before taking the exams and achieving your CPA license. At this point and time, there's no way around the 150 credit requirement so credits beyond an undergraduate degree is a must. Why not just apply those credits to a graduates degree plus get your CPA license? To me, it's all worth the knowledge and the money. Thank you for the video, well done❣

That last part about public vs private put that in a new perspective for me. Private is treated as an admin cost for a company.

Yes! But if your company can afford your department then Industry/ Private Accounting works too!

Hi Jen, just came across your channel today, very good content and information! I was wondering if you could do a video discussing the pros and cons of going from Big 4 to a mid tier firm and touching on points such as: work/life balance , salary/benefits and career progression. Thanks and looking forward to future videos!
@FinancialMatter4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carlos! Sure I can discuss that in a future Q&A video. Here's a video on the pros/cons of working at the Big 4 in the meantime: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWS0domPhrRrfaM

Thank you for sharing your insight and it's really helpful! I am wondering if I pass the CPA exam before I enter into Big 4, do I still get those benefits of $5000 bonus and $1000 CPA study fee?
@FinancialMatter4 жыл бұрын
Yes to the $1,000 study fee because you can ask for it to be reimbursed after you paid out of pocket. The benefit of the $5000 bonus you would have to ask your HR. I received my last passing score after I started working.

hey could you do a video on choosing a public or private college as an accounting major?? should you go to public college for a bachelor's degree and a private college for a master's degree?
@FinancialMatter4 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen - I went to a public college that was in-state and more affordable for undergrad and was still able to work at Big 4. I suggest finding a reputable school whether public or private.

What is the average hours per week in the tax service line during busy season? Do you also work during the weekends?
@FinancialMatter4 жыл бұрын
Emily Huang Hey Emily -The hours depends on the company/ team that you work for as well as the company’s culture. For tax, we are busier in the fall and spring because of the statutory deadlines. When I started five years ago at big 4 until now at a mid tier firm, I do work on the weekends during busy seasons. I would say my hours are significantly less when working at the mid tier firm as well as work/life balance.

One thing that is never mention is getting your bachelors and getting a minor in accounting. The other option is getting your bachelors and taking 30 units at a community college!

Hey Elin - I studied before I started working full time. I took about 8-10 months off to study and pass all 4 parts. I would take breaks from studying while I waited for my score. I used Becker CPA Self Study. Good luck!

Hi Zang! I pushed my start date at Big 4 to study/pass all four parts before working. I didn't need any work experience to take the exam. I only needed work experience to receive my license. Hope that helps! Lmk if you have any other questions!

how did you study
@FinancialMatter4 жыл бұрын
Hey Glenn - I mostly took classes in college and tried my best to stay engaged and on top of the readings. Not all of them were easy but practicing problems help. I personally think accounting in the real world is easier. I focus on mostly tax accounting vs. learning cost/managerial, business law, book accounting, etc.
