I tried both resmed APAP and CPAP and experimented with a bunch of settings. It is funny that my best results are with basic CPAP. Putting the exhalation pressure low negates any benefit of high inhalation pressure (as reported by my machine). It is also funny that the APAP (the machine increasing pressure when it senses events) does not help either. I settled on a medium pressure with only 1.0 pressure different between inhalation and exhalation. My biggest issue is with humidity. Resmed 11 tank is too small to last through the night. Also, I found that I absolutely need the heated hose (resmed 10) to keep condensation from collecting in the tube and making sounds that wake me up. Masks are another issue ......

Thanks for the movie! There are many patients who have difficulty exhaling in a CPAP machine. Then I wonder why not all patients are prescribed a BiPAP instead if it simplifies the exhalation?! It´s not the cost of mashine that should determine whether a person should be able to breathe normally. I have a low pressure at night, despite that I have difficulty breathing comfortably. ***Update 1 year later : After a few weeks of "breathing training", I can sleep normally with a CPAP mask. I've noticed that I can't use my mouth when I sleep but have to breathe through my nose - this is also most common, as most people with "problems" have a tongue and palate seal blocking the pharynx. When I use a full mask, my mouth is closed. In this way, I can breath "normally" via the nose. I had severe nasal congestion for 6 years, which I mostly got rid of by surgery. Before surgery, I had to take decongestant nasal spray every night. I understand that people with stuffy noses and stuffy throats have a hell of a time sleeping. Soon I will see a doctor to talk about pharyngeal (?) plastic, where soft tissue in the pharynx is cut to open up airway. However, it is unclear if I will take that step, as it may make it difficult to swallow food for some patiens - for ever. I use my CPAP every night and get good results from it. However, I think the mask's elastics and mask press a bit hard on both teeth and skull. I hope the teeth don't move over time - which is why I'm thinking of buying a mask of a different make, and then just a nasal mask, to vary the pressure over the jaw.

Cost shouldn't be the factor in healthcare, but it is. This is why I need to wait a month just to attend a sleep study. By the time I get my CPAP I might be dead! 🤣
@hemmatv1582
@hemmatv1582 Жыл бұрын
@@sublime_tv Lucky you! I had to wait 6 months to borrow a device to measure my breath pauses, and unfortunately only for one night! The doctor could not see enough breaks to warrant a cpap machine to rent (10 dollars a month - in Sweden). After 1-2 years, I wanted to measure again, which required new doctor visits and a new wait of 6 months to borrow measuring equipment. This night I could see several pauses for breathing and now I qualified to rent a machine. It is idiotic that patients only get 1 night to measure - because it can differ greatly depending on e.g. body position, etc.

Do I did an Bi-Pap, or and Apap? I have just never seen much of anything positive after 2 years of using a CPAP. Honestly I find myself taking it off in the middle of the night as it's just not comfortable breathing, while other nights it seems fine. I too the humidifer out as it was jut filling the mask with water every night, no matter how I adjusted the levels.

My basic queries:(as per my imagination :P) As there is CO2 retention - the problem lies during expiration ... hence CPAP shld be used as during expiraton airways are kept open fr CO2 to washout ...likewise .... problem with oxygenation lies as a part of inspiration .... hence it requires greater pressure during inspiration (so IPAP?) EG.If there is sm fluid in alveoli due to heart failure , more pressure is required to get through the fluid and in capillaries right? so pressure is required mainly during inspiration.... This is my dilemma ... please help me understand better ...

Is cpap only for the expressed purpose of facilitating better sleep or can you use it as a breathing aid while awake as well like a respirator?
@contax9377
@contax9377 4 жыл бұрын
CPAP machines are used to treat sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. It would only help facilitate better sleep if you have a sleep disorder. The way the CPAP works is that it creates positive air pressure that opens up your airways. Unless you have obstructive airways due to your airways not being structurally sound, then I can't see how this would hep with day breathing. A side not, afaik, fighter pilots do use positive air pressure in their masks when their under certain extreme G forces. The Gs they can pull can literally dissallow the correct pressure to form in our lungs to allow oxygen to pass into our blood. So their mask pushes the air into their airways and literally forces the oxygen into their bloodstream.

The only way to know your settings is to have a Sleep Study done and that requires a doctor.

As a long term user you do not need a prescription no doctor needed just use a fully automated machine like resmed airsence 10 in Australia they send you home with this machine and you go back and have it reviewed by a professional if nessary they can determine if you have central or obstructive sleep apnea (The machine has the readings recorded) However I did get a proper diagnosis 15 years ago no review has been nessary since but I do have a technical background and know what I am doing. However you do run the risk if you do self diagnosis of missing some other medical condition that may kill you. So very wise to get doctor to review your particularly situation. The reason you must use a automatic machine is you pressure varies with weight change and how exhausted you are if you use a manual machine you will need a sleep study using a automatic machine to find out the setting require for the manual Capap machine

That is the older model before the Airsense 10. It could be the APAP or CPAP version.

Blue-Zero you have to be given a diagnosis of sleep apnea. How you get that diagnosis is by a doctor ordering a sleep study for you. This will determine if you have it and how severe. I hope this helps

Ahmed, ask your doctor to lower the pressure. The pressure is set by prescription. Later, when you get used to it, the doctor will gradually raise the pressure. Took me 30 days before my first full night on the C-PAP Machine, and it was worth it! Good luck!!
