Not psychotic. They become overpopulated because they have zero natural predators. If they become overpopulated, they starve and turn to eating pets and hunting people.

Many people need to mask their deep insecurities by killing an animal that is much more powerful then they are. Of course they use a weapon with scope or sights so they can hide and shoot it from a long way away. Then often a guide will approach the animal first to be sure it is dead and safe for the brave hunter to go near. Then they will take photos looking proud and happy as if they have just done some heroic act. It is really quite pathetic.
