Luckily adding custom functionality itself does not differ, but the compilation steps may. You can find more details on how to compile Python for different platforms by looking at the README on the CPython interpreter repo.

Why is Python interpreted instead of compiled?

The Python interpreter first reads the human code and optimizes it to some intermediate code before interpreting it into machine code. That's why you always need another program to run a Python script, unlike in C++ where you can run the compiled executable of your code directly. But the language itself being interpreted is the initial developer's choice.

Hi Rohit! As John mentioned, Python being an interpreted language was the choice of the developers behind Python. However, the reason they made this choice was mostly to enable a level of flexibility and expressibility that you can't achieve when a language is compiled. This is because a compiled language needs extra information, statically, into what the program is and is not able to do dynamically at runtime. This extra information can be viewed as bloat in some cases and is often not desirable for a language marketed to the same demographic that Python is.
