CR&R Peterbilt Heil Rapid Rail in Cabazon CA

A while back the only truck I ever saw in Cabazon was a newer Amrep, so I never really paid much attention whenever I was in Cabazon. Fast forward to about a year ago and I saw this truck on the 10 West coming from Cabazon but I assumed it was just a spare. However, the very next week I saw it in about the same spot at the same time. I figured I should check to see what was running in Cabazon soon. Sure enough I found this truck there and it was the regular route truck for the town. It was such a cool place to see this classic automated truck handle the route of nothing but 96 gallon trash carts. This truck has quite a history starting it's life with a small company that did the recycling in Hemet at the time, and then it became a city of Hemet truck when they took over the recycling operation and finally when they were done with it they sold it to CR&R. A newer Volvo Rapid Rail does this route now and i'm not even sure if this truck still runs unfortunately. So enjoy this as it might be my last video of this truck.

Yes!! Finally! I've been craving to see a full video of this truck ever since you guys found it last summer. Though it doesn't have the same deep grumble like when Scott filmed it, I nevertheless watched the entire video and was very entertained by this classic rig. Sad to think this is (or was) one of the last 310 Rapid Rails in existence. I was in contact with the driver I filmed in the Volvo RR on this same route a while back and he said they wouldn't be able to use it as of January of this year. But considering the ExLA 7K still runs in Phelan who knows what CR&R keeps around these days. Awesome post!

Nice!!! That's an awesome truck right there. I love the way these old Peterbil Rapid Rails sound when they rev. Haha just like you said, an old Rapid Rail can be one of the most fun trucks out there :) Love how he would let the cart go at some points like 1:58, that's a neat trick. They running/ran this thing outta Cherry Valley right? Awesome video!

Thanks man! The Driver sure is quite experienced with this truck. Yup it runs/ran out of Cherry Valley. Hopefully it is still used as a spare.

That is an amazing Rapid Rail Alex, great find. That is a neat story about the City of Hemet buying this truck from a local recycle company. Do you happen to have a picture of that local recycle companies carts or anything? I also wonder if this Rapid Rail is pre Heil? The Rapid Rail sure lets out a nice roar that never gets old. Is there no recycle or green waste collection in Cabazon?That was also neat seeing Morongo in the background at 3:12. Thanks for posting this video.

I believe I have some pictures of the old recycling companies carts somewhere. If I can find them i'll send them to you. They are blue wheelie bins that you can still find in trailer parks in Hemet. Just trash in Cabazon for now. I wouldn't be surprised if recycling will come soon though. Thanks a lot Kevin!

Giovanni Algeri there are some routes (generally rural/dessert routes) where they use the 1 Can system and then the sort it at the Mrf (material recover facility)
