​@@ColeSeelythe actuator plate in the water pump commonly fails, rendering the power valve disabled. Also, the modern oils can be run at a much leaner mixture (50:1) I prefer on ammsoil. This allows use of a couple sizes larger on both pilot,and main, needle setup making even more power. Looking forward to the video when u have this fixed!

Loved to hear that two stroke. It never gets old. I have a 2001 that I love to ride so much that I simplified my life and sold both my KTMs and just ride the CR. They are so dependable. I have had mine for 23 years. Hell I rarely get rid of any thing I still ride my 1975 Elsinore that I have owned for 49 years and I use my 1970 trail 70 , that I bought with paper rout money in 1970. I am 66 and stopped racing last year I just still like track/ trail days

I've been waiting for this first ride video. I had a 93 CR250 that I absolutely loved! Unfortunately, it didn't love me and put me in a wheelchair. I still love MX and the sound and smell of a two stroke singing gets my blood pumping! Can't wait to hear her sing once you get the engine sorted out.

2 strokes are so much more fun and 4 in my opinion. I bet you’ll be surprised with the power and extra fun once you get that power valve opening. I’ve had the same issue on a few of my 80’s and 90’s 2 strokes many years ago… really catches you off guard when they are sticking and then open up, but a ton of fun. Looking forward to your next video 🤘

As I watched the first minute I was thinking, man, that is maybe a fast 125 but looks slow and sounds ''flat'' on top for a 250?! I ride a 03 RM-250 and it sounds WAY healthier than that! Makes sense now that you mentioned the Power Valve! I would love to have a 03 CR to go with the Suzi.

I’m sure you have plenty of connections, but I suggest sending the entire engine to Tom Morgan Racing…. He has a killer engine spec for that bike. He did mine and it hauls! He was Wardy’s factory Kawi mechanic back in the day. His attention to detail is unmatched! Great looking bike CS…

4:32 was a hint, but 5:00-5:15 was a dead giveaway of a power valve issue when it fell flat on its face. That thing will sing a beautiful tune when you get the engine dialed!

Still love the way that bike looks 30 years later! ✊I was wondering why you weren’t pinning it during the first part of the video but a stuck power valve makes total sense. The power valve opening up is what gives you top end power. That things gonna be a blast once it’s dialed. 🤘😎 P.s. Maybe one of these days you could drag McGrath’s ass off the couch to spin a few laps on it? That’d be sick.

Yup the power valve. That bike rips way more then what you felt be careful when you take her out next time after changing the power valve. I had to do it to my 86 Honda night and day. You be coming out of corner and be like damn I’m not gonna be able tojump.

Great video, thanks for sharing! A stock '94 Honda CR250 produced about 43hp at the rear wheel and with a stuck power valve it would be around 35 or so (that's what some 125's make). McGrath's works bike had a claimed 50hp.

if you got the ears lined up when you put the cylinder on then it will be the arm.on the right hand side was tighter down in a bind and will not move. take the pipe off, right hand power valve cover and if you can't turn it loosen up the bolt on the link arm then it will free up and you'll see how to tighten it back up..

Must use yamalube or ktm oil. General use 2T oils are too clean and the power valve dries out.

Way down on power hopefully that wakes it up.. I cant remember if I had 125 with a stuck or bad power valve but it basically felt like a two stroke without the power band.. huge difference when fixed

That thing is choked up. Slow as hell. Those bikes are fast normally. The power valve stuck open would be much better ! With your skill and speed you don't need it ! 😊

Whoever installed the Cylinder probably didn't line up peg into the foot on the Cylinder so the power valve isn't opening

yeah sounded slow and the power valve aka powerband wasn't even kicking in which is most of the fun. I hope you get that fixed and backout there and I want to see that. You'll see its a totally different beast

Needs to be a law, cant own both 4 and 2 strokes, one or the other. Either a 2stroke guy or not. I say this because im bitter my beloved 2stokes are becoming more and more hard to get ahold of. Anyone remember the days you did not need to take you main bike with you? any state traveled want to ride? you could easily pick up a bike for next to nothing ride and sell it after before moving on. Thats the part and environment of 2 strokes that is gone and will never return I really miss those days. Anyway Good video and Nice bike. BTW did it sound like that bike was really laboring?

I promise, I was about to write that it felt slow and something wrong on the top end. Valve not opening you are probably making 50% of the power, actually for these bikes all the power is concentrated in a narrow band right after valve opens.

@@ColeSeely haha it's mostly the powervalve issue, should be a quick fix. you'll gain another couple thousand rpm from where it dies off now...at some point it should make you say 'holy sh&t' when the power comes on haha, that'll be when you know it's running right

Hey Cole, How did you get that tank so perfect clean on the outside? I have a 96 CR that I restored. My tank is my only issue that needs to look like yours. Any information would be appreciated. Met you when you came up to Bishop fairgrounds when they returned the arena cross races.
