Got married in OCMD back in '08. Honeymooned there too. We did it all on the cheap, saved up cash and paid for everything. No debt. It was also my birthday week, so we went to Fager's for my birthday dinner. The Crab gazpacho was awesome!

Hard to beat Woodys in Dewey for crabcakes. Best lunch at Fagers is a crock of french onion soup and a char-broiled burger. Both mainstays on their menu since opening in mid 70s!

Give Crabs to go a try! Have you done the drawing for the shells yet? Thanks!
@ReelJayB Жыл бұрын
We've done crabs to go a lot, when friends and family come in they always want to go there. But here's something odd- I found that if you buy the crab cakes and cook them yourself, they are way better than if the restaurant cooks it. Absolutely no idea why, but that's now what I do. Doing the shell drawing this afternoon, I'll announce the winner on my facebook page and on the shell video.

Hotels, oceanfront definitely The Hilton and the large Holiday Inn. Bayside Aloft. Crazy furniture like an IKEA. They have a game room and outside games. Staff was very friendly. Stayed there Dec of 2021 and did the Christmas light show at Northside Park.

Aloft is awesome! We did a Hotel video last year and Aloft was in it. Didn't get to see the rooms though, how were they?
@michaeldavenport5034 Жыл бұрын
@@ReelJayB definitely different. No microwaves in the rooms at that time, centrally located on each floor. Staff said they were working on rooms getting microwaves. Was not a show stopper for us. Furniture reminded us of IKEA. Game room was nice and they had the large games outback. Since it was December not many people there, so it was quiet. You get a good view of the bay. Mirror light over sink was unusual. Was a circle button that kind of blended in with the mirror. I believe I have pictures I can send to you. The staff was a big plus.

It's FAGERS! I would expect no less than "silver"ware. LOL. But they should be ashamed of the size of that crab cake compared to the bun. I'd be pissed. I'm curious though.....do you want to taste SEASONING or do you want to taste CRAB? This one sounds like a pass to me. I have yet to find an exceptional crab cake, but I haven't tried OC Eats. Those potatoes look delicious....but I need ketchup. Too dry for me. We used to get the best fries here. Hand cut fries, seasoned with Old Bay and ranch seasonings, and melted Cheez Whiz over top. Fantastic. Sadly, that restaurant went under post Covid. Ever stayed at Fagers? Nope.....beyond my budget. Another good review Jay.
@ReelJayB Жыл бұрын
Thanks Darlene! The "silver"ware threw me off! I Wasn't expecting that! To me there has to be a balance of good seasoning and crab taste. Waterman's did a great job with it, so did Captains Galley and OC Uptown Eats. I'm allllllll about putting ketchup on fries....but there's one problem. I get an allergic reaction to vinegar and I sweat, so I don't think people want to see me sweating on camera eating fries with ketchup HAHAHA.

Have two time shares at the Coconut Malorie right in front of Fagers Island so always go there three or four times during weekly vacations. Love the guess it's now $15 hamburger for lunch and the Sunday to Tuesday night halve price prime rib ( from end of October to early spring ). Have the gout bad so no longer eat crabs and very little red meats. Fagers has gone downhill last few years. Used to have great Island Fries but they changed them to garbage fries. Lemon lust desert is great. First 4 or 5 Thanksgiving meals we ate there were great but not the last one. Fagers owner old guy John something used to own the Coconut Malorie hotel but heard his wife got it during divorce years ago.
@ReelJayB Жыл бұрын
I think the prime rib is still the same. My father in law just went there for the half price prime rib, he said it's one of the better ones he's had. John's still there too, we saw him when we were picking up our food.

@@ReelJayB I like to walk around the.little island that has the three foot bridges. Fagers always has somebody outside hosing down or cleaning something. They do a great job maintaining thier property. Crabbing used to be great on foot bridges until they built the hotel on the little island maybe 15 years ago. Heard the scum bag contractor thumbed his nose when they gave him the max $50,000 fine for something he was trying to get away with. Before the hotel 3 if us would catch one crab after another with a lot of legal crabs. We never kept them Now nobody ever crabs there and lucky to get 3 crabs a hour and maybe 1 in 25 legal size. Two years ago I grabbed there 4 times and only got 1 legal size crab.
@ReelJayB Жыл бұрын
@@JohnThomas-lq5qp crabbing here over the years had changed a lot. Not nearly as many keepers. I've heard of a few places with big crabs, I'll be doing a video this summer so hopefully I can find thr areas!
@JohnThomas-lq5qp Жыл бұрын
@@ReelJayB Thanks. In my old age find crabbing more relaxing then fishing. Amazing how when I release crabs on the foot bridges 9 out of 10 times they somehow know the shortest distance to travel to jump.off to the water. Tried slowly rotating the traps a few times to confuse them but they still travel the shortest route. Tried crabbing at first red light after crossing over the Route 90 bridge. Make a left turn them walk down to dock and did not have much luck there. Years ago while working at a large slaughterhouse we took some cow tongues to the roof and poured blood on them for a few days. Stunk so bad but first time we tried it caught a lot of crabs. Second time we tried them only caught a few crabs. Another thing that amazes me is when done crabbing I throw sea gulls chicken necks and somehow they shallow the whole thing.

We stayed at the Coconut Malorie just in front of Fagers Island a week in the summer and Thanksgiving week. We always go there at least once for lunch and then for supper.
