I add vinegar to the steam to help the meat release from the shells! Anecdotally, it works for me......not sure of the science behind it!! Can't go wrong with Old Bay....ever!! Videography was off the charts!!! 😝

Put a splash of white vinegar in the steamer and the crabs are much easier to peel from the shell. I learned that from the Arrington's.

Ian, you have a huge chance to expand your video material with that ebike. I currently own two and I love to ride in public preserves and trails throughout Florida. I had no idea how much public land was available for recreation until I started looking. Counties, State, Water Management, and Federal properties are everywhere if you just search on-line for them. Abandoned railroad beds have been converted to shared path usage all throughout our state and many other states in the US. Get a bikes for the girls and enjoy them. Looking forward to videos on that subject.

As I once stated in a comment, I grew up in Maryland and only knew how to steam them one way. I promised that I would try it the “Florida Way” eventually. Well, I did this weekend. First of all, you got to get those rascals cold and asleep before cleaning. If not, you’ll be sorry! Second, (and this will likely cost me my Maryland native card), I am SOLD!! Might never cook them the old way again. Still gotta use the JOs, but a little garlic powder makes a big difference. Thank you for expanding my horizon (and waistline!).

So just some info about the ebike. You can only use it for hunting on public hunting land in Florida if it is a class 1 bike. A class 1 bike is a pedal assist only bike with less than a 750 watt motor. I personally have a rad rover 5 that is technically a class 2 however if you disconnect your throttle it could be considered a class 1 as the rad rovers are technically just under 750 watts. The important part there is is could be considered a class 1. A game warden has ultimate say over the situation. Yes you may win in court but who wants that. I still use mine in WMA's and have not had a problem yet without the throttle connected of course. Just a heads up to my fellow hunters here in Florida look up the rules and try to abide by them to keep your outdoor experience free of hassles.

Yes, traditional stone crab traps are smaller, black box styles with a concrete bottom. I find that the crabs don't particularly care and the blue crab traps catch stone crabs just as well.
