Grew up on the Gulf Coast of Texas. When I was a kid we would catch blue crabs from the shore using chicken and a string. The smaller wing parts worked just as well as the legs. We would anchor the string to the shore and then toss the chicken-string out 90 degrees to the shoreline. And then watch. When the string started moving sideways from its original position you had "CRAB ON!" Those were the days.

Great day wish I was there. We used to set it up like a trot line. Two poles with the line strung out and bait tied on the stagions about a foot long tied about six or eight feet apart. You walk along let the line slide over your fingers. We used to do this by boat. Love the vids. 4 dozen crabs

I was born in Wash DC & grew up in Rockville, MD. Catching crabs exactly the way you do in this video in Chesapeake, MD. Catch crabs with chicken on a string is a blast! We stumbled on another cool way to catch crabs at Piney Point, MD, at night where the crabs swim to you & you only have to net them. You can fill a laundry basket in an hour. There was a lighted pier with a fueling station for boats. At night, the crabs swim along the top of the water, feeding by the lamp light. Thre current brings them towards you & all you have to do is scoop them up in a long handled net like you are using. Ty-wrap &/ or tape an extension handle, so you snatch them up close or far out! This video rocks!

On Maryland's wester shore in the early 70s we would visit my friends grandparents for a few days every summer. We would drag a 15 ft wide net stretched against two wood poles. Just drag for about 50 yards about ten yards offshore then dump on the shoreline. We would get stung like crazy by jellies and cut the crap out of our feet but the crabs we caught were unbelievable. A 10 inch blue crab from point to point is considered big or a number #1 these days but I swear we were catching 12-14 inch every day because we measured.. One crab was a meal. Unbelievable fun. Monster Maryland blue crabs. Lots of old bay and pepper.

That’s called a trout line. In Md, 20 years ago, with a recreational fishing license you were allowed to put out 1,000 ft of line for each license. You attach a weight, about 10-15 lbs to the end of the line, next attach a chain to the line, Move up about two feet and tie your on float. Move down about two feet and tie slipknots in the the line about 3 feet apart, use chicken necks in the slipknots. On the other end of the line after you finish baiting the line you tie your other float, then your chain and then your weight. You can walk the line with a basket and pick up your crabs OR Get a large J hook, (you can use pvc pipe) attach it to the side of your boat get a trolling motor( pick up the line and loop it over the J hook) drive along the line and use a metal net to to catch the crabs when they come to the top of the water. You can keep your bait on the line for the next day or take off the bait, keep the knots in the line to rebait the line. My hubby and I would get 1-2 bushels at a time when we wanted to put in the time. There is a great crab spice which is about $3./lb that is great. If you are gonna use line you are gonna have to get a higher weight line to hold the weight of the weight, chain, bait, float and other end. Blessings.

@snowieherrera7710 You described an actual trout line...lol. I certainly used that with success as well. What we did was just drag a net stretched out along the shoreline. Unbelievable crabs. Huge. It was a private shore, so no commercial crabbing was done and it was early 70s when they were more plentiful. I also just dropped lines off piers and boats like and good Marylander. Have a great weekend. Now I'm hungry for steamed crabs...lol.

I found your channel yesterday and watched the video where you hauled a barge from Jacksonville to Guantanamo and did some snorkeling. I'm getting on up in age (76) and am mostly bedridden. I am sick of all the politics on KZbin. Your channel has adventures that I can go on vicariously. I grew up in Jacksonville, but I retired near Louisville, Kentucky. In my younger days my favorite adventure was deep sea fishing off of Cape Canaveral. Looking forward to checking out your psst videos.

On that crap dip... Looks delicious. One thing from my cooking would be to add about a teaspoon of "Scorned Woman " hot sauce to a dish of that size. It's hot. But the absolutely best tasting hot sauce on the market. (In my opinion). BTW, congrats on your anniversary! Brand new subscriber.

I just got a feed of blue swimmers in South Australia. I went raking on a shallow beach, but I really like this method.
@TugTrashOutdoors

Awesome what exactly is raking?
@addytrolla2535
@addytrolla2535 3 ай бұрын
You find the greyish patches of sand where they bury themselves, then gently drag a wire rake over them. The claws come up and you hear the ting sound when they grab the metal rake, flip it over and chuck it in the bucket. The water's so clear around Adelaide you can see where they dig in. You can see their eyes poking up if you know what you're looking for.

Dogs tend to come to videos because of the similar talking tones you have when making videos they compare to when dogs are being disciplined or directed....its pretty funny😂😂😂

I watched the other video of the cook portion where you made the shrimp on the tugboat. It made me smile to see you feeding your crew such a delicious meal. I too am an old towboater having worked on the coast and ran the rivers for several years in my youth. I was a tankerman when I quit riding. I remember we had beans and rice everyday with our meal. Cap was a cajun and could cook like you wouln't believe. Home office wouldn't let us buy shrimp so we traded passing shrimp boats for it. Coffee or diesel or steaks. We could buy all the ribeyes we wanted just not seafood..It was the most fun job I ever had. Hard work but time went by fast underway. The outfit I worked for, Coastal Towing, was bought out by Kirby. keep up the great videos. I'm a new subscriber. What was the count on those crabs?

So crazy to see a Florida man clean crabs before cooking and then steaming them. That's not the way I grew up with it being done. All have to try all those methods except for the Old Bay. Zatarain's is my favorite.

A lil tip from The Coo-Nass: buy the really cheap knee high stockings, put the chicken in the stockings, tie it off then tie to the string. Bait lasts longer & their claws tend to get caught in the stockings & they get away near as often.
