A very interesting reel here that I've never seen or heard of. I would love to see you do a series on your opinions regarding quality, things you consider to be good or bad attributes of quality. Since you service a lot of reels I'm sure you have a good idea of things that hold up or not, and opinions of things that may be overly complicated and make servicing more difficult.

Great suggestion! I will add this to my video request and see what I can do - Thanks - Dennis

I’ve actually seen a Luxor similar to this. I wonder who copied who? This reel might be part of the famous fight between Luxor and Crack. That dispute makes for interesting reading. It appears to me the Luxor was a more substantial reel. Perhaps there is something on the edge of that block that holds it on? There might also be some way to detach that block by sliding moving the axle shaft back or forward such that the block can be twisted and the axle shaft slide out? This reel certainly has a unique AR dog mechanism. I wish I could get a closer look at this reel. It is not often that you get stumped and I don’t presume that I could figure it out but I wish I could try. - Chris

Thanks for the ideas Chris. I looks to be molded on. I'm told the clock ratchet needs to come off in order to disassemble the reel. I will try that

@@2ndChanceTackle That makes perfect sense. Good luck!

Please update us if you find the answers to this mystery. I’m interested in the outcome. Thanks Dennis.

I will. I just learned that the click ratchet has to come off the top. Mine is pressed on pretty tight. I will get it removed and update all. Thanks for everyone's help - Dennis

It looks like there is a spring pin holding the block on the shaft. A pin punch should pop it right out.

I thought so as well. but I didn't see it and I am told it is molded on, so thanks. I will recheck - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle yeah, it looked like there was a metal ring in that hole, that should be the spring pin.

Did you ever do a video of the surf reel, not sure of the model I always just called it a Crack/Luxor. It has the round body/ housing like a VS. The model in this video is not all that aesthetically pleasing, the surf reel is a beauty however.

Stay watching! I just finished one on the Luxor you are describing and I will post it soon

looks like there is a washer/shim missing on the A/R side where the gear is grinding into the case. Sometimes the end justify the means, clean the best you can, grease it and go fishing

I stand corrected , I think, the one on Al Tani's has the grooves from the gear also

That is possible - I see the scrapes as well - Thanks

In my humble opinion if it’s not attached to the axle then it could be just a super snug fit designed that way at the factory possibly using super glue? A few sharp whacks against the housing might scoot it backwards. I certainly could be wrong though

Hmmm. Generally hitting it is not a good idea. It may be a last resort. Thanks
