You really have a video for just about everything! Thanks for the help, I'm still new and needed clarification when servicing mine.

Very interesting Dennis! I actually have a very dirty old Shakespeare conventional reel that a friend found in some old fishing equipment that belonged to her father. There was a spinning reel (Unknown make), a bait caster (also unknown), and a Shakespeare saltwater conventional reel. All of these are covered is sand, dirt, and a large amount of rust and corrosion. I’ve never attempted to work on reels in such bad condition before. I got the spinning reel done and I think I know why it was discarded - it was missing the bail trip lever spring. I have no idea who made that reel. I could guess as it is obviously a 1870s reel. I haven’t attempted the other two yet. If I can find a model no. on the Shakespeare I’ll let you know. Maybe you can give me some help. It has been a long time since t worked on a conventional reel and it was an Ambassador 7000C. - Chris

Shakespeare made a few different sizes and varieties. There is the larger Tidewater series and the smaller bait caster the SKP 2000 that is like an Ambassadeur - Best wishes - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle I’ve got a lot to do on this reel just so I can see the case. If it is like the spinning reel I expect to find some problem that led to this reel being neglected for so very long. This father of my friend actually built his own saltwater boat with an enclosed cabin and both indoor and open bridge controls. He would have used this Shakespeare for offshore trolling. The spinning reel looked a lot like a Roddy I have. You had to remove side plates on both sides to service it. I was amazed that the bearing which was shielded on one side was in good condition, - Chris
