In stead of cutting a square hole try using a 45 bit. With the 45 bit you don't have to worry about the top having a glue void and you can cut the corian all the way through and only cutting out the cracked area. This makes a stronger repair. Just a thought from someone that has fabricated since 1994.

Great idea. If the crack is located in the middle of the counter, how do you clamp it down?
@stevenrwh2 жыл бұрын
@@AndyGraves You can use little screw clamps that you hot glue to the deck of the countertop and then tighten the screw clamp down onto the repair piece.

Hello- We just encountered a hairline crack due to a slow cooker and where wondering how to repair it. It's a HIMACS product. The crack is not straight and appears to want to grow. We are considering drilling a small hole at the end of the crack, cleaning it and glueing with an epoxy. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

That's exactly what you should do. Just make sure you get matching glue for the HI-MACS color countertop you have.

Our house was house built 17 years ago and we ordered white Corian countertops and sink, which just recently cracked all the way through after running hot water. We thought we were getting genuine Corian but, unfortunately, the fine-print said "or similar solid-surface material". Will an authorized Corian shop fix a generic brand material? I'm having trouble finding somebody local. I have the skills and tools to do a drop-in, but I'm leery of doing my own undermount and worried about color-matching. Your videos are outstanding, BTW. Thanks
@AndyGraves8 ай бұрын
Yes, a local Corian shop would fix a similar material as long as it's solid surface. Doing an undermount sink would be a little more challenging. You just have to make sure that the hole you currently have can be reworked to fit the exact shape of the new undermount sink. But really it's just a matter of cutting the hole the exact size and then sanding and finishing the edge of the sink cut out to be nice and smooth.

Hello Have enjoyed watching a professional, what advice do you have for joining a wood butcher block top to a Corian top in "L" shape, both tops are 1 1/2 thick Thanks Great Work
@AndyGraves3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. You will have to use a flexible adhesive like silicone. If you use a non flexible adhesive the joint will eventually break because the materials won't expand and contract the same.

We have the pieces that came out and there are mainly two pieces that can be fit into the hole. How would you advise to fix this? Carefully place the pieces back into the hole and using the corian epoxy, then let dry and sand smooth? Please advise? Thank you!!!

Yes. Use the corain color rule that matches you counter. Put all the pieces back . Let dry a food 45 minutes. Smoth out the glue with a buddy knife or square razor so not to much color adhesive is overflowing on the countertop. Once it dries throughly. You need to sand with orbital sander starting with 80 grit to 120, 200, 400 and finish up with Scott bright pad to buff. That should do it. Corian can be fix with any defect . Cuts , scratches, burns as long as you have the matching color adhesive your good

I’ve fixed cracks of all sorts and irregularities a good way is to use an 1/8” Dremel bit and freehand the crack to increase the size. Then you’d cut shims out of the same color material and pre fit them into the crack. You just want to make sure you use a glue that matches perfectly when you go to glue it up or any repair is going to show a line

Hey I love your videos and it’s always interesting to see how other people do their work. I was wondering why you have your table saw blade so high when cutting your half inch piece. I had a supervisor tell me a few years back to never have the blade more than a half inch above what you are cutting and was wondering if he was just talking out of his bottom side
@AndyGraves2 жыл бұрын
There are a few reasons. The SawStop will turn off if you touch the blade within a fraction of a millisecond so there is no worries about cutting your hand. The guard will not clear the fence when cutting narrow pieces. And finally, raising the blade will give you a better cut and will force the material down tight to the table. When the blade is only a little above the material, it tends to push up on the piece especially when it's as hard as Corian. We always run it high when cutting solid surface.
