In ten years you could have say in front of the tv just spinning the numbers and would have opened probably in a day or two just randomly spinning them until it opened.

wow thank you for this, the only video that worked for me. My Btwin 300 was locked in my cupboard. The main tip that worked was the tightening of the gates when they rotate. Not sure if was a true or false. So I got down to the last 2 numbers. The first 2 i managed to lock in. Then I just did the brute force on the last 2. Great Thanks a ton

my combo lock has a push lever so that the pressure trick doesn't work. you'd have to push the lever for every try. help!

TIP: if you have a feeler gauge USE IT, put it inbetween the last number and the male end of the lock, you can eliminate false gates using this (ex. If your .010 gauge slips right in with the combo "0010" but there's a ton of resistance using "0040" you can pretty much eliminate that "4" as a false gate)

After looking inside the lock housing and comparing the numbers I did write down before I did it by touch. It happened that the numbers i wrote were the false hits or out by 1.

I'm trying to open a BELL Watchdog 100. Starting at 1111 everything feels tight. When I start turning one wheel, whether from the left end or the right end, I just don't get a sense of a difference. It seems like more numbers click than slide. I've tried turning it faster or slower to get a feel for it. Any suggestions? If I take it to a bike shop is it likely someone could crack this for me, or should I go to a playground and ask a kid??

+Git Pick'd Yeah, I have been making some picks for a few folks so that is what I've been doing, and since my shop heater is out of propane I can't work out there too long before I get cold a grumpy. Haha! More propane should have arrived today though, so hopefully I will get some more things on video. I did pick up those three Brinks recently, so maybe I will pull them out and pick them on camera. :)

Wow, fantastic video. The first that I saw demonstrating and explaining false gates in combination locks in this nice way. I wonder if it is possible to feel the difference between true and false gates. That would safe a lot of time. If they put in more false gates it would make the lock more secure, right? Are there disadvantages that come with these false gates? Like less force needed to pull it when in the false gates.

I didn't Saturday morning trying to crack it. I had looked and didn't see any videos on this yet, so after figuring it out, I decided to make a video on it. I couldn't detect the true gates from the false. They just bind up the wheel totally when either is hit. It makes for a fun time like that though :)

The hardest part is actually finding a false gate to get you started. The other wheels won't let you fall into one easily. After finding the first, it gets much easier to get the remaining wheels to find a gate because of the extra slop. If more false gates were added, it would definitely slow down the brute force progress. But it would still be possible. Thanks for watching Pottie314!

What I meant by feeling the difference is memorizing the amount of movement you get on the pulling side form the 3 possible positions of one wheel, and then try to estimates which one was the most.

+Potti314, I tried to find some small difference between the clicks and feel of when a false gate vs. a true gate was encountered but i was not able to tell the difference between the 2. I had set wheels 1 and 2 to the true gate to allow free movement through themm so that they were not hindering the test at all. I then set wheel 3 to a false gate to allow for maximum movement of the male portion of the lock through wheel 3, and to allow me to feel wheel 4 through the 2 false gates and true gate. I can report that movement and feel were the same to me - no difference at all from what i could tell. The amount of travel for both the false and true gate appeared to be similar. So they did a good job in that aspect. Thanks again for watching, man!

I bought a kryptonite crypto lock on Amazon it was used But for $50 I assumed it would still be set to open I have tried the 00005 and nothing works I’m so pissed off

Yes, buy 2 extra 4digit combination locks and tie them each other.

You could save some time and pull whenever you change any wheel, skipping the resets. I'm guessing you wanted to just keep this simple, but you could avoid confusion on numerical combination locks by "counting" the rotations that round (mod [# of gates per wheel], mod 3 in this case) using letters instead of numbers (i.e. aaaa, aaab, aaac, aaba, aabb... accb, accc, baaa... cccc, [end]). Every time a wheel needs to be reset, you're just mentally assigning it back to "a" instead of physically moving it back to the "first" gate.

Or pull on the lock watching each disk. Start with the far left and one digit at a time, observe when pulling on it no longer pulls that first disk, then repeat for the other 3 numbers..

I have what appears to be a Kryptonite 1218. I tried your method but it feels like there is a false gate behind every digit. Can that be? Another Kryptonite 4-wheel lock that I have to which I know the combo and can see inside, has only one false gate and I can see it is 4 clicks to the left of the true gate on each wheel. If you know how far away the false gate is from the true gate, you could shorten the amount of combinations to try from 81 to just 16. On the other hand, if every click has a false gate, what then?

Tom I had the same problem. I have the 1218 Kryptonite combo lock, it felt like every gate was a false gate. I finally cracked it after an hour. Once I looked inside I only seen one false gate. I used the kryptonite video and this one to help me solve this issue. I think it was shear will and determination... and a lot of luck. :) Hope you figured it out.

I really like that it has a twisting lock feature to keep out dirt and debris. However, the mounting system is much too light for the lock, and continues to get loose/move around. It's mostly made of plastic parts, and I've had to tighten it a few times in the past week or so that I've had it. I'm worried that it's going to break off at some point while I'm riding. I'm considering just scrapping that part, but that would mean having to carry the heavy lock i my backpack and adding more weight. I wish I could have given this more stars, but without the mounting system, it's just another heavy lock that I have to cart around. UPDATE: Increased rating to 5 stars because the seller offered to provide a new lock and mounting system. Really appreciate the attention to customer service!!

When you find the 3 gates ( 2 false and 1 true gate) on each wheel. It is always the middle gate that is the true gate. Example if the 3 gates were 5, 6 and 7 which was the case in your video then 6 is the true gate.

The true gate on the rightmost wheel is 3; the choices are 3,4,7. If what you are saying is true, wouldn't 4 be the predicted gate for the rightmost wheel?

That logically can't be true if the combo setting mechanism is anything like other locks of this type. Let's say you have gates at 0, 6 and 8 on wheel one out of the box (code 0000). Gate at 0 is the real one. If you change the code to 3000, then the gates will be at 3, 9 and 1 (i.e. 3,7,9). The true gate is at 0+3, not 7.

i got this lock wich i didnt knew the combination. so i listes the numbers that it has in a website and it gave me 1200 possible combinations i went through most of them but i also skipped a couple that seemed "too weak" one of them was 6313 for some reason. the actual code. after completing 6666. i eventually ended up figuring it out with a screwdriver.

This " binder" explanation is pretty poor. And at 1:29, "they're all bound up" without showing us a better explanation of this "bound" thing and what you are actually referring to (are there 3 possible bound locations per dial?) is a pretty dismal and most important explanation that is not given enough time, demonstration and explanation. Is no mention to sound, vibration, and explanation why the dial will glide over certain digits and not others--then become impossible to reproduce not important here?
