Well on the desktop you can reset the bios usually by a hardware jumper on the motherboard. Do some research Google and KZbin and you will find it. With the laptop have you tried all the steps in the video to try and clear it?

I have a Lenovo laptop with a forgotten CMOS password that is configured to boot only from the hard disk so I cannot boot directly HBCD from USB. The OS got corrupted and I cannot run windows repair routines successfully as HDD main partition got completely corrupted nor make a new installation from USB or cdrom. I watched your video and I thought that perhaps a way to install windows 10 back again is to use an alternative drive with the bootable plop manager loaded into it and the n boot normally. Once running select to boot from USB which has also boot manager stored in it, Once that second plp manager is running swap the HDD that booted first with the original corrupt HDD, and then swap the USB thumb drive with one that installs windows 10. Do you think that this method will work? Do the two HDDs have to be identical so the bios do not get confused during the swapping?

I'm not sure as there are so many variables. Give it a try and see. I would look for a cheap motherboard for that laptop on eBay and just replace the motherboard. BTW sometimes it's cheaper just to buy the whole laptop as opposed to just the motherboard. Understand that this technology is sometimes not worth your time to save. @@richardlloydusa No that's not a hucker's way to deal with problems. Besides, it costs a ton of money to ship anything to my country. Anyway, after tinkering with it a bit I got to boot HBCD 15.2 from the USB despite having no access to change the boot order My HBCD Win 10 PE hangs. I was surprised though to say the list. Now the problem is to fix my partition with some utility like chkdsk because when I try to use chkdsk it says cannot use on a raw disk. After booting on HBCD I used MBRfix to copy my first sector VBR to a file and I noticed that the First 6 bytes do not contain "NTFS" so I Was thinking if I change that with a sector editor perhaps chkdsk will think it is not a raw disk. My disk data are all well preserved on the disk because Partition GURU could recover and display them however I don't have the professional edition and I can not use it to edit the sector.

Noticed in the video, that when you entered BIOS at the end, HDD shows as Frozen. What does that mean and how can you fix that? In the Frozen states there is no way to get to Recovery?

There is always a risk. I would advise you to take out your hard drive before doing anything to your bios. Don't do anything to your BIOS unless you absolutely need to and realize that the bios is what boots your computer and messing with it may cause your computer to stop functioning correctly.

Thanks for the video. it's a great tutorial. I just want to add something. Killing the cmos should be the very last option. I tried to kill cmos on couple of laptops and that option caused some trouble and even password was still there. I think kill cmos option erases some other info that is not supposed to be deleted. So you get DATE AND TIME error at startup. and you can't fix it by setting correct date and time on windows. Before applying kill cmos option google it to see if others had any problem with it. Also if you have an old IBM or old/new LENOVO laptop, this will not work. It says in the manual THERE IS NO PASSWORD REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE LENOVO LAPTOPS. YOU NEED TO REPLACE THE MOTHERBOARD.

Enybody knows what version of hirens boot cd these utilities are in? If i only able to boot frm laptop main disk drive, can i install an image of a usb stick with bootable hbcd on it onto a regular disk and plug the disk on the computer(original os disk safely set aside) and the try to see if it boots from main drive?

Since your system is a desktop system it has a cmos reset jumper. Google xw4100 cmos reset and you should find a manual with the instructions on how to do it.

Did you try all the F keys and the ESC key? If those don't work you could try removing the hard drive and seeing if it picks the cdrom to boot from. Good luck.

Unfortunately you can't boot prior to the bios lock being engaged on your computer. I suggest you call Dell support they may have a master password to disable your BIOS lock password. Thanks.

I have a Toshiba satellite c55-b5200 laptop with win 8.1.. I forgot the bios password. Do you have any knowledge of bypassing the bios? Or where the cmos battery might be located on this model? I cannot find one anywhere. Also wondering if I download a recovery usb of Windows 8.1 and take out the hard drive if the computer will even recognize it and boot? I have tried almost everything to get the computer to boot up into any mode possible. no luck.. please help

Yes and it's going to cost $250 for them to fix it and ship it back to me.. I know that I can do this myself if someone would share any information pertaining to my model c55-b5200, like after removing the back cover and hdd, where would I locate the cmos battery to be able to jump the bios password so I can get the laptop to boot hopefully into recovery mode or at the very least dos??? My CPU is i7, it supports vtx and vtd fetaures (virtual machine support) but acer disabled it in the bios and there is no menu entry to change it. TheHearrtbeat Sometimes when you disconnect the hard drive the computer tries to boot from the CD-Rom. Try disconnecting the hard drive and see if goes looking for the CD-Rom

You need to have the laptop boot to a cd and yours does not so this will not work for you. I have heard that taking the batteries external and internal out for a period of time will reset it but I have no clue for sure if it will work for you or how to do it. Sorry.

Nizou Ben The oldest trick in the book is to remove all power sources (power supply & laptop battery) then remove the CMOS battery which is on the motherboard for 10 min or more. I would remove it and leave it powered off for 24 hrs. Worst comes to worst you can buy a new motherboard for this laptop for $75 which would solve this problem. Here is a link to the motherboard and a picture of the CMOS battery on the motherboard. Do NOT try to remove the CMOS battery to get rid of Supervisor password on a Thinkpad laptop, it will not work and it will lock you out from being able to boot the HDD. So if you could boot the HDD to your OS, then you will be locked out permanently until Supervisor password is removed.

I'll give you credit for sharing but not very practical. This is going off the premise that your BIOS is setup to boot off the USB or CD/DVD first. If it's set up to boot off the Harddrive first, not gonna work for the average user...

Agreed. But I can't judge the users capabilities. I can only show them how it's done. If they have questions, I answer them. BTW if you remove the hard drive the computer will default the next boot device which may be the USB or CD Rom drive.

well i disconnected the cmos battery, waited a spell reconnected the battery, wow i can now open bios, got to the administrator password, and it was clear, let me say i don"t like win os, all there doing putting information on your machine and not for your benifit. anyway now i can install linux zorin os my favorite, you have a great day thanks for your time and sharring. kudos for youtube your great too.

I think the password is stored on an eeprom chip. I think the only way to fix if is reflashing the chip.
