In this video, I perform an experiment to see how fast my Ethereum Mining Rig can crack/recover passwords. The results are astounding!
My Mining rig has 5 graphic cards - RTX 3060, RTX 2060, 3xGTX 1660 Super. I usually mine ethereum on my mining rig and the hash rate it gives is around 179 MH/s.
Mining crypto and cracking passwords are very similar, which is why I decided to conduct this experiment and put my rig to the test.
In the video, I perform two cracking attacks
- Dictionary Attack
- BruteForce Attack
Both these attacks are performed on sample password hashes (generated from different hashing algorithms i.e., MD5 and SHA256) using a fast password recovery tool named hashcat.
DISCLAIMER: This video is intended for educational purposes only. All the experiments done are performed in a controlled lab setup and not on real targets. Can you please make a video on how to get the full hash rate of your GPU enabled in Hashcat? Because if you don't know, that isn't even half the performance your GPU's capable of doing. My 3060 easily gives me around 48 MH/s, but while using Hashcat, I only get around 394 KH/s which is way lower that what it is capable of. Is there a workaround for it?

@@Bamon_199 thats why mutations exist. For hashcat you can make it so it generates 50000 mutations for each word in the wordlist. Thats a job for an amazon AWS instance tho.

it takes about 9 of these cards to crack as fast as a single 4090. a 4090 costs 1600usd and 9 of these 60 series cost over twice that. not to mention you had to buy special hardware to handle several gpus. your money would have been better spent on 2 4090s - the second algorithm you did a 4090 can do 800k hashes a second. where your cards did 4-5k a second. thats a 160x faster with one card. or 40x faster compared to all of them. now don't be offended, i'm not trying to insult your machine. but a bunch of 60s isn't even close to a single 90. it's a bad buy.all 5 of your gpus would be more expensive than a single 90 series gpu.

using Hashcat makes you a script Kiddie? it's a tool that comes with Kali Linux and Parrot os, tools used by ethical hackers and pentesters. It's a great tool, I mostly use Aircrack-ng to get wpa2 hashes but also use the wifi pineapple and it captures handshakes in booth 22000 form and PCAP. I'm still new to all of this, only started back in oct. I wanna learn as much as I can, so that's why i'm asking you. :)
