Thank you so much for featuring my puzzle and for the kind words of praise! This is my 2nd on the channel and I must admit that I had you in mind, Simon, as I was setting the puzzle. At 27:10 why did the cage have to be a 1-5 combo and not a 1-8 combo? I think you got lucky there.
@karlmortenlunna24172 жыл бұрын
Yes, he was lucky. But at that point the cage in r4c23 had to be a 6-cage, and it had to be 1+5. And that places the 5 in r5c9.
@Samhain_III2 жыл бұрын
You can do the logic he did later from the left side of the grid. r4c2 has to be a 6-cage (by rotation) without a 4, which means a 1-5 combo. This removes the 5 from r4c9 and therefore this is an 8. That makes the cage a 1-5 combo. But since he did everything later he really got lucky or had his "uniqueness argument" in the back of his head for the left side of the grid.
@DisturbedNeo2 жыл бұрын
He already knew the r5c1/2 cage had to be a 9-cage (uniqueness forced the 7), so the r5c8/9 cage had to be a 6-cage, eliminating the 8.

I think a tongue-in-cheek title is perfectly apt for this puzzle given how playful it was, particularly some of those initial deductions. Yeah - pretty sure he just needed to see that the 6-cage on the left was a 1-5 in order to disambiguate the 5-8. I expect it was meta-knowledge since (as he said earlier) he was certain it'd need to be a 6-cage. If it had been a 1-8 then the corresponding 6-cage on the left would have made a deadly pattern with the 2-4 below it.

You didn't need it to solve the puzzle, but a neat bit of logic that I ended up finding is that, because the two cages in Row 5 must be different from each other, whichever one is a 9 cage can NEVER be a 4/5 pair, because it would break the opposing 6 cage

I can tell you because I accidentally put a 1-8 into that cage. That puts 465 in r4b6 which means you can't put values that add to 6 in the cage in r4b4 (you end up with 1,2 which add up to 3. But you have to because the opposite cage in r6b6 is a 7,2 pair which = 9.

@27:10 I don't understand how the 58 pair in column 9 was resolved. You said r5c9 had to be a 5, but why couldn't it have been an 8? I know it wasn't because it would cause a deadly pattern in the rotated cage with the cage at the left of row 7. But uniqueness isn't a good reason.
@sanabas12 жыл бұрын
It was a lucky mistake, but there are multiple ways to immediately get that 5. e.g. The 27 just placed force 4 into r6c1, which makes r5c12 a 9 cage, which makes the 1 in box 6 part of a 6 cage. Or the unmarked box 4 cage must now sum to 6, must be 15, and that puts 8 in r4c9. Or where can 5 go in r5? All the other options either already see a 5 or immediately give an unfillable cell.

After many set puzzles on the channel I immediately let set go on the puzzle and discovered that the 2 cel cages in each of the boxes 4&6 needed to be different, which led me to believe that despite 1&5 and 2&4 being valid 6 cages totals and 2&7 and 1&8 being valid 9 cage totals they would likely not be in and box, column or row. I'm not smart enough to figure out the logic here, and I thought it was interesting when I looked at the completed grid and saw I was right. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful

19:34 damn, that's what I did wrong. I somehow concluded that 4/5 was the only option, and went way down the path of thinking it was a 9 cage

I looked at it for a few minutes, but I just wasn't able to see any way in, so I gave up and just watched. If the break-in were a bit more obvious, I think I could have managed the rest of it without too much trouble.

I was at least 3/4 done, when I thought I'd blown the puzzle. I had a 9-cage, but couldn't make the matching one a 6-cage. I came back to the video, and watched while Simon confirmed a number of my entries, and shortly reached the cage I couldn't make a 6. Saying it had to be a 9-cage, he did his numbering and I returned to my own. I had somehow blundered into making a 6-cage a 9-cage. I looked further, and saw that I was making two corresponding cages both 6-cages. I have no idea whatsoever what happened, but I resolved my problem by switching a 4 and a 7. I didn't have to do anything else! I finished the puzzle, and hopefully, it's correct. EDIT: Yes! It's correct!

@22:44 Why, for the love of all that is holy (since there's no 3's in the corner losing their religion) did you put a 9 in r7c1?

The 3 has joined a cult with the 1 and 5 in the cage up the top.

Simon, you really need to pay more attention to colums. You entered the 7 in row 2 17:12 minutes but didn't link it with the 7 in the bottom row until 27:44. "I think that's been available for a while" - yes, 10 and a half minutes previously, lol.

If you omit the centre box, you have 105 that has to be in 36 cells, leaving 255 that has to go in 36 cells. Giving an average almost 7,5. So I'm not very surprised that these mostly must be shared by 9s, 8s and 7s.
