I am so glad you enjoyed the puzzle. The name is a combination of two things. Yes it was made after watching the finale of Endeavour, the prequel series to Inspector Morse which I love. It was also made in dedication to a friend who works on tall ships, and Endeavour is the most famous tall ship in Australia. Thank you Marcus for everything you have done for me over the last 18 months, you have been a literal life saver. Simon, the two deductions you called out as your favourites were the things that I was most happy with being able to make work in the puzzle. I wanted this to start quite gently with the introduction to the weird quadruples clues with the ? used to be able to precisely place the clues for revealing at the right time, then ramp up the difficulty of the deductions as you progressed through the puzzle. I am so glad this got featured for all of these reasons. Thank you again for all that you do for the community, and I am glad having one of my puzzles in the queue was helpful when you were time contrained. BremSter.

This is exactly right. I spent a long time trying to make whitespace work so I could position the clues, but the various setting tools and/or SudokuPad would just ignore the whitespace; so I had to resort to the ? in order to be able to do positioning.

A forty-eight minute solve for me! I’m impressed I was able to make some of the breakthroughs in this puzzle. At one point I was worried I’d messed up, not because I saw something that looked wrong, but because I’d just made a very abstract deduction that wouldn’t reveal its falsity for a long time if I’d messed up, something that has happened to me more times than I can count. It was all good, though. I didn’t use the secret on the wrench; I jumped straight to the sumless cage and the quadruple that ended up being a 69.

Breezed along and then slammed into a wall dealing with the left side of the puzzle. Took me a very long time to realize I could Sudoku the 7 in box 1. That barely helped though because I also got stuck at the 19 cage. I narrowed it down to the two possibilities but I kept confusing myself when trying the combinations and was failing to see that 6 in that cage was never in box 4. Enjoyable puzzle overall though. I like how fog of war puzzles look intimidating but actually end up being able to guide you along a solve path!

Solved on my own! Got a little lost in box 3 (did the math wrong on the 21 cage because I didn't count the 3 in it, oops), and then again in box 1. I was cruisin' along very nicely until about 2/3 of the way through, then I hit an impasse and could not see how to move along for what seemed like ages. Only when I finally noticed the "what cells does that cage see?" restriction was I finally able to make it to the end, in an embarrassingly slow 91:37. It was also really hard for me to see the half-hidden quad numbers, in part because I use customized font sizes. I had to continually increase and decrease the size so I could see what they were. And I can only say it's a good thing the fog doesn't penalize you for attempting to place a wrong digit next to it.

Oh I loved this one. Unfortunately I got _badly_ stuck for ages because my brain decided the 21 cage in box 3 did not extend into box 6. Which still yeilds the correct position for 4 in box 3, and only a sensible amount of options around that! But, surprise surprise, it won't let you go *any* further 😅 Once I started over, _made the same mistake again_ and THEN saw it and corrected it... it was a breeze. So yeah, not my best time ever. But it really is a very nice puzzle, everyone should try it.

ok, I'm still working on the puzzle, but I think the "?"s are to either hide or reveal quadruple numbers in certain ways as one clears the fog. For instance, at 13:02 you can see part of the 3 in the upper right clue. But if the "?" weren't there, pushing it left of center, it wouldn't be visible.

Cool puzzle. But almost impossible on iOS Safari. The quad clues are a little high in their circles so you can only see the bottom 1/2 to 1/3 of the ?/567 clue in box 6. 41:23, I was stuck for quite a while and resorted to looking at the video. I was really confused how r3c9 could be a 2. You can't have a 2 in a 3 cell 21 cage! Oh, that cage goes down into Box 6 and is a 4 cell cage!!! I was able to solve it from there, some really nifty logic. One thing I really liked was how the digits where placed in the circle. There were spaces and question marks used solely so specific digits could be unhidden as you solve the puzzle. Like, the ?7?3 circle wouldn't normally be written like that, the 3 would be before the 7, but the 7 pops up first as you solve the puzzle and the 3 pops up later to give you the 37 pair in Box 7.

3:58 The question marks were to avoid prematurely revealing the contents of the quad. If the two you're looking at weren't there, you'd be able to tell what was in the quad. Please stop doing logic on the basis that there might be a 3 in the corner. If it reveals something, it's by bifurcation, and if it doesn't it's just a silly waste of time. I wish the setters would avoid putting 3 in the corner, so that when it does happen, it's special. Very nice puzzle. After I filled the right half in just a few minutes, I thought it was going to be a doddle, but it ground to a halt pretty quickly, and I had to change gears.

I think what Simon was seeing as the 6 when the 69 was still partially covered was an illusion caused by the shape the selected-cell outline made in the corner of that cage when selecting an "L" triomono of that fogged cell and its neighbors to the right and below, that said if you looked very closely at the bottom half you could see that it was indeed a 6 without anything extra revealed...

Fog of war puzzles should reveal wrong clues when the user places incorrect digits to prevent cheating. Even if an honest player places an incorrect digit, they'll be shown correct clues in an otherwise unrevealed portion of the puzzle, and once that information is made known to the player, it's hard not to metagame.

This one started out easy but then got really tough. It took me 51:16 to finish, but I did it.

The ramp up was part of the design, and I am glad you were able to finish. I am so glad you found it something you could do and I hope you found it as much fun to solve as I did to create. Thanks for persisting.

How can you open this Puzzle with the Sudokupad App? Or does the App not work for Fog-puzzles?

I'm not sure of what the point of the question marks is. Unless it is a workaround of the software to place the known digits in certain areas of the circle.
