This channel has been such a huge part of my life since Covid. I started making puzzles this past summer and to see you and Mark solve them on the channel is a dream come true. I am a high school math teacher in NY and you can bet one of the first things I did was send my students the link! I am getting many emails already from them saying they commented 😂 *Just finished watching. I am so glad you liked it Simon, I will be bragging about this forever!

Wonderful puzzle. Haven‘t watched the video yet, but the way things unravelled in my solve, causing unexpected roping and disjointed pairs was really pretty. I‘m not entirely sure I followed the intended path, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Took me around 70 minutes to solve though (well, I‘m a bit tired, it‘s been nearly 1am in Germany when I started, so that might excuse it). Your students can really be happy to have a teacher like you, who obviously possesses the rare talent to create more than just plain syllabus - I had two of this sort in my time, both of whom I hold dear to this day (I graduated with Abitur in 2008 - it‘s a bit hard to locate to the US system, Abitur is somewhat more than a high school diploma, but not entirely comparable to an undergraduate). One has started my connection to the English language when I was only about 10 (5th grade in Germany), the other was the best maths and economics teacher (and all around the best pedagogues ever had). Good teachers are a blessing (as well as bad ones can cause life-long disconnection from their respective subject - for instance, I still can‘t really connect to classic German literature, as strange as that may seem). In short: Thank you.

Lovely to see the positive comments from his students. Fifty years ago, an algebra teacher mentioned the Fermat two-square theorem to me, and it was probably the moment that led to my studying math[s] rather than modern languages at university, and ultimately a rewarding career as a freelance software developer. Thank you, inspiring teachers everywhere.

I finished in 42:55 minutes. This was an absolutely beautiful puzzle. The way the negative constraint worked was so pleasing. I think my favorite part was seeing that the 23 pair that flanks either side of 678, such as in box 7, always had to have a 6 between them. That was my favorite part until I started coloring the 23 pairs and the 78 pairs and started playing keep away using the X rule. That was so satisfying to do. This has to be one of my favorites. Great Puzzle!

At 24:00 the deduction I found that made it easier was that the V in box 5 was a 0/5 pair. The 0/5 pairs in boxes 7 and 9 are off the negative diagonals. This means that there must be a 0 or a 5 on both of the negative diagonals in box 5 and the only way that can happen is if the V in box 5 is a 0/5 pair.
@Bweigelt136 күн бұрын
Yeah I finished in 28:37 and had the same deduction.
@matthiasney48716 күн бұрын
Yes. Would have saved a lot of complex coloring, that's why Simon found this puzzle quite difficult while according to the ratings most people (including me) didn't. When you just ask for the placements of the 0/5, 1/4 and 2/3-pairs, it is pretty straightforward. I used two colors (0-5, 678), and when I found the symmetry of the 0/5-pairs, added a third, and could easily run through the entire puzzle.
@jonh6585Күн бұрын
Yes. I also coloured the 78 to realise that the 14 or 23 in r6c6 was seeing same 78 as the other 23 on the negative diagonal so that's impossible so it must be a 14

I much more enjoyed the "pencilMARK" approach. Pencil ALL the vertical roping in ALL the columns. Pretty easy to see. Then look at the third and fourth digits on the negative diagonal - is a 78 pair. So 2-3 is gone from the touching neighbors. Then 6 can't go with 4; use neg. constraint, etc etc. This flowed very well, great puzzle, Nap!

Great puzzle! Exactly what I like about searching for a right place for a right digit. For me central V worked out from 05 being out of both diagonals in boxes 7 and 9, thus each diagonal would need a 05 digit from central box, and this could be done only from central one being 05.

At 33:00 could you have figured out red because of the diagonal red/black square being pencil marked as 6/8? Since you already knew black was 6 I think that would’ve meant red was 8
@tomasvdw91736 күн бұрын
I don't think that that deduction is correct and it seems to be an interesting pitfall of the coloring method. The constraints at this point are: - The r3c7 cell is either the black or the red digit. - The r3c7 cell is either a 6 or an 8. - The black cells are 6 and the red cells are either 7 or 8. It can still be that red is 7 because this doesn't at this point create any contradictions; all statements can still be true. Hence we cannot conclude that red is 8.
