As an ex boxer I have two questions one is what the heck does the ref think he's doing. Cracknell got caught flush at least eight times and his head rocked back. I have seen fights stopped with less punishment than that. It was obvious he was out classed. The second question is what is wrong with Kerry. You know you can beat the guy it is for charity step off and use the jab. Why knock him sparko?

Jesus. That was a humongous mismatch. The New Zealander looked decent. Cracknell had heart but no technique. Shouldn't have been in with that bloke.

I assume from watching that James Cracknell did not have any boxing training. It looks like he spent his time at carpet right watching rolls of carpet fall over ..he certainly did that well

Not meaning to be arragant...but i know. Iv seen lads come to the club hav a go at Sparring and after a few rounds dont eva do it again let alone get in the ring for a real bout. peps talk shit about boxing and 99.9% hav neva sparred let alone had the balls to step in the ring, so fair play to Cracknell but he he's no boxer. The amount of training required for 6 mins of fighting is a hell of alot, for me tho its the diet thats the hardest.

Yes with respect to Rowing and any other physical sport, each has it's own level of pain and no boxer can be a great rower vice versa, so in an nutshell contact sports requires different skills and endurance.

This is just plain idiotic. Boxing is not a game, it's a very dangerous sport. Both of these guys are boxing with their chins in the air, they are both slated for disaster! They are great and respected athletes in their own sport, but boxing is not a charity sport! Too many people step in the ring in either sparring or charities like these and get injured. Don't think for a second that Cracknell recovered as soon as he got up, he would have felt that for days.

I will refrain from using bad language. "WHY" did you go into the ring? There is a reason why we are rowers and not boxers, hockey players and all the other body contact stuff. We have never really spoken, but it was PAINFUL to watch you get hammered to the ground. Bloody hell what the sam heck were you thinking. Be good to your body, aren't you a dad now? Stay out of the ring. XENO ironoarsmandotcom

I don't get it. The guy in blue had a semblance of rhythm - so game over. Unless you're a monster puncher boxing's all about defence and composure - Cracknell had no composure because he had no defence, how hard can it be to stick your chin in your chest; cover up and not get caught standing square: answer - very hard actually!

Cracknell is a physically imposing Olympic gold medallist rower but cricketers, like baseball pitchers, are great hulking brutes with very strong and fast throwing arms. Being on the wrong end of their punches, therefore, is not the place to be. On top of that, the cricketer in this particular instance looks to me as if he'd been in a ring before. Cracknell was brave enough but must have realised very early in the round that he'd made a decidedly ill-advised career move, even for charity.

The cricketer seem to be more technically right giving the impression he has actually boxed before. Whether he had or not, I don't know. But this is sad ok. Sports people from their sports taking up boxing, even for charity. They could get seriously hurt. Did you know Andrew Flintoff, the former England cricketer, will be having his first pro boxing bout later this month?

Actually, if you watch the KO again, he's thinking he's on top because the other guy had covered up momentarily. Cracknell was manfully trying to apply pressure; the other guy didn't get flustered and turn away or run backwards - he moved sideways; turned him: Cracknell thought he might have had him - BANG! Nothing to do with being hard, it's a skill.

Cracknell is a patron of the Spark's Childrens charity for whom this event was raising money for (I read someone that his sister had lost a bady); so you can see why he did this. Sparks banned any future events based on the conclusion that 6-8 weeks training is not enough time to prepare for a boxing contest, and added it put it's celebrity patrons health at risk. 3 of the 4 fights in this event ended in KO's with Cracknell and 1 New Zealander knocked unconscious briefly. The KO of the New Zealander was appalling in that he was KO'ed on the ropes and his opponent then kept punching him after the ref had stopped it and was trying to pull him off. The ref rightly made a point and disqualified the actual winner to discourage such behaviour (it was was charity!!). The ref should have stopped the Cracknel fight before the KO as it was always going to happen as it was clear his opponent was far more skillful and knew what he was doing (Cracknell didn't have a clue). Although the experience of boxing is exciting it is something you don't just play- anyone thinking about undertaking white collar boxing be warned. 8 weeks training is not even enough time to gain the fitness to last 3 rounds, with nerves, breathing with a gum shield boxing is the ultimate in endurance. Tragically Cracknell suffered brain damage in 2010 after being hit by a lorry mirror whist cycling in the USA. Although probably unrelated it's possible his awareness may have been reduced/lowered following this daft boxing event!! I'm now a 41 year old english male 6F 2 and 13.5 stone. When I was in my early 20's I sparred for the 1st time with a female 16 year old county champion. She laughed at me during sparring and told me where to place my guard as despite me being probably 2 or 3 times her strength (and way heavier) I couldn't hit her and she was hitting me at will. If your punched under the jaw you will probably go down (doesn't take much in most cases although I now know I can take a punch following being whacked outside of the ring). The truth is there's huge amounts of skill in boxing and luckily my young female boxing partner stuck to the boxing code which is don't KO beginners you are totally outclassing. I was very grateful!!!

it wasn't so bad. Anyone who is not trained in boxing runs a big risk getting into the ring. Cracknell used his reach effectively a couple of times, and looked like he might have blue in trouble just before the ko, but walked into too many strong rights

Theres a lot of arguments going back on forth on the comments but it doesnt matter what sport you come from, it doesnt mean you're going to be good at boxing. The most important thing to get good at any sport aside from having a natural aptitute for it and even then you need this is actually practise! If you look at any good boxer, footballer, rower, etc they tend to of been doing it atleast 10 odd years! You have the odd occasion like anthony joshua who became an olympic champion but even he

From video on monitor, we see him training at gym. So, his trainer, should have teached him some basical rules, like keepin the head down, holding guard up and avoiding straight punches, to reduce the risk of a ko.

has been doing it for 2 or 3 years and he's still somewhat crude when you watch him compared to say Lennox lewis who also won gold but again Lewis had been boxing since he was a kid and had years to refine his technique via sparring and amateur bouts. Practise and repetition is the most important thing to get good at something.
