Great tip for when I run out of Murphys Oil. I throw a good splash into a couple inches of water in a tub, and I throw everything in, including my brayer and I can get everything to look new again. It cleans brushes nicely too, and I have a small container for THoltz sponges and my brushes, a d they come out beautifully. Just as soon as I am done with an object, I toss it in my plastic dish tub and clean them with a sponge, when I feel like it. It's nice keeping our art toys nice for next time. Love the idea of keeping our beautiful stencils in a binder. Currently, all mine our kept in a 13" comtainer for papers. Your way is much nicer! Thanks for the suggestions!

I love my Murphy's soap... I have a spray bottle of it at my desk and I use it for cleaning desk, brushes, stencils in the moment it works well too --but I never did soak them in Murphy's . Having a dish tub right there is a great idea....but with my klutziness I would spill it....Thanks for sharing Cheryl. Karen

Thank you Karen & Nikki for this awesome cleaning solution. I store my stencils the same way. In the 12x12 folder, I also use the plastic album sleeves that are divided into 4 pockets for my 6” stencils and the album sleeves that have 6 divisions [each section 4”x6”] to hold the mini Kaisercraft stencils. They fit perfectly. Hope this info is useful.

This worked beautifully! Thank you for sharing this video. I soaked overnight in a big tub around 25 stencils or so and the paint, Pan Pastels and alcohol inks came right off. There were a couple that I had sprayed Lindy's Stamp Gang Moonshadow Mist spray through and that is a walnut ink and those didn't come clean like the others but they had small parts and I was reluctant to scrub them as hard with my brush for fear of breaking them...

Great....yes depending on what we use on our stencils..type of paint...how long its been there..how many layers are there will determine how easily it comes off. K

This is a fantastic way to clean. Will this work for cleaning gesso and texture paste?

You need to clean stencils right away after using texture paste. I typically spray them with murphy's oil soap and wipe with paper towel or baby wipe. Gesso comes off easily too cleaning right away. Karen

I have really sensitive skin, so I'll have to stick to Murphy's Oil soap, or even Dawn dish soap. I think the one point that you brought up that is really important, is the soaking. You can't just stick them in for 5 minutes and expect results. Put them in to soak, and just walk away......

Actually some of them come off within the 5 minutes....murphy's oil takes longer...but yes time is free. Thanks for watching. Karen

Darn don't have a dishwasher ....will have to sneak some of my sisters dishwasher tabs....I store my stencils the same way and managed to pick my folders up at a local op shop.

Great tip. I wonder if it would work with dried on texture paste as well? I store my stencils in document sleeves in a ring binder. I also use the inking technique on the background sheet as well, so I know where they should go, and you can see them better too. I keep the original packaging from purchased stencils so I know what they are. I make a lot of my own too - designing them in Inkscape and cutting them with my Black Cat Cougar cutting machine - Tyvek works very well for this, although it is opaque, not transparent. Very strong and durable.

How long do you soak them for ?

Depends on how much you have on them as well as whether the paint is fresh or has been on months...When I wash them right after a gel printing session it takes a very short time....If I am doing a clean of stencils that have several layers on them that havent been cleaned about 30 minutes...Hope that helps...K
