Great video with good ideas. I store my stencils in a binder and then have created a database with photos of my stencils that I look through before I use them. All of the stencils in the binder are in a numbered order and once I find the one that I want in the database (also numbered), it is fairly easy to locate them in the binder.

Great idea! Could also punch a hole in stencil to hang from instead of a part of the design so doesn’t get damaged TFS

Sounds good for most people, but I don't want to punch holes in my stencils because I also use them with my gel plate. They do make small clips to hang stencils from. Tim Holtz had some and I think I have seen them elsewhere too. Have a great day!

I have also found most of my non-Tim Holtz stencils usually accommodate a hole punch in one corner or the other so the design isn’t at risk by putting the ring through it.😊💕

Great ideas. I store all my stencils in a large binder in plastic sleeves that was for putting finished layouts in before putting them into an album. This works well as it fits all different sizes and I just have them in different categories.

That's exactly how I stored my Stencils! I hung them on shower hooks on the clothing rod in my craftroom closet. Since I've rearranged my craft room i now have my bigger 12x12 stencils in a plastic scrap book box i got from Michaels.

Like the hanging bar with the stencils. Visually appealing to me! Use the binder method, too. Bought a pretty binder and keep it out within reach.

I have my Tim Holtz stencils on a ring. Some other brands are still in the packaging. I really like all of these ideas, and can see each one of them working well. Thanks for sharing.

I have used the ring method from the beginning. I love stencils and this seems to be the simplest. I have a piece of cardstock bookending more delicate ones. I love your bars, so pretty. I started out attaching the to the front side of a wire shelf, but recently moved them to the ikea white bar with hooks (the type you can get little whe baskets for too). Works great. Tfs. I'm glad to see this bar method work for others like yourself.

That's a great idea. That would work for my large stencils. I bought a product at Hobby Lobby that is a round hanging rack that spins and has little clips that hang off the spinning rack. It holds a lot of stencils. Right now I have all of mine except the really large ones. Ikea had extra clips that were made for curtains I guess, they are pretty small but they work perfectly. I can spin it around to look for what I want. Of course it does take up some space but I did find a place for it. I tried the binder and it just didn't work at all for me, out of sight, definitely OUT of my mind! :))

I am setting up a new stamp room and bought two of those revolving racks at Hobby Lobby. I am torn between having those racks where I can reach them (taking up a lot of table space), or leaving my stencils in the binders and having them on my table where I can reach them easily. If I have to get up to get them, they will probably not get used. I want everything near me. lol ! Since you wrote your comment 3 years ago, I am wondering how the racks have been working for you? Thanks!

Well I don't use the rack anymore, simply because I didn't have the real estate, however I do have two of the wooden racks that Taylored Expressions had on sale, I like them but getting the stencils in and out is a pain. I have pretty bad arthritis so maybe it's just me. I hang really large stencils from a wire that I have strung between pegs on a warping board I have on the wall (you will have to google warping board, LOL). That is the best way I have found so far to be able to access them, have them out of the way, and see them. It doesn't take up any space on your table or shelves. I tried binders, I hated it. Hope that helps. @@bethbenson1931

@@pamelasertich9850 Hi Pamela! Yes, I am worried about how much space they will take up on my 6-foot banquet table. When I designed the room, I thought I could put the revolving racks on top of a deep bookcase. But I will have to get up to walk over to look at them. Bad arthritis in hips doesn't like me to get up and down too much. Going to have to re-think this . Thanks for answering me. I had started to think that I didn't want to use table space for the stencils and I think you confirmed that. Will have to think of something to put on those racks that I won't have to get up for very often and keep them up on the bookcase. Maybe my few stickers? Hate to waste them. I guess I started putting my stencils in binders because I found a tall thin one at a thrift store that holds all those long ones. It only holds about 30 or so stencils and would go on my table easily and it is not heavy. The other stencils are in various sized binders. Was thinking of numbering them so I can find them easily. I agree that that might not work that well if I want to use a lot of them at a time. Putting them back would be a pain. Good luck with your new system. Hope it continues to work for you. Have a great day!

I just organized most of my stencils two weeks ago (still working on it). The smaller ones went into 3 ring binders with page protectors, just like you showed, with a piece of cardstock between (I have 2 binders for small and medium sizes). I also have some of the Tim Holtz stencil sets on the book rings, hanging from hooks. My largest stencils are in another type of binder that's like a box with a latch on the side. It has 12x12 page protectors in it and there are 2 stencils per page with cardstock between them. This is a collection started several years ago, so there's a bunch of them. LOL You can never have too many, right??? (or can you??) LOL I would like to go back through the smaller ones and arrange them by type (florals, shapes, abstract designs, alphas, etc.) Thanks so much for sharing.

I have all of my stencils, embossing folders and stamps in clear storage folders and then put in clear plastic kitchen bins (idea from Jennifer Ink). Everything is labeled by maker and stamp name as well as logged into AirTable. It works but as the collection grows, now at 4 large bins, space is becoming an issue and I still have to grab and flip through each bin. Space is my biggest issue.The room is packed full and I can’t do anything else. I just need to quit adding product and organizing and just use everything I have. I’m an organization and collection junkie. I starting to make more and collect/organize less. My husband keeps asking if I’m going to open a store........ PS. Love your newsletter and the wise words in the one this week. You are a beautiful, kind soul.

Single hole punch. Just punch your own hole instead of damaging the stencil. This was literally part of being taught how to make stencils in my scene painting class, but it was also the way my Mom organized countless things in the 90s. If there's really no space, then buy "retail hang tags", the clear plastic such on tags that are used by national chains when product packaging breaks in transit or is ripped by a customer and left on a shelf.

How do you save scrap stencils for or the little pieces when using poster board or mylar/plastic letters or the templates
@ScrappyWife
@ScrappyWife 2 жыл бұрын
I would just gather them in a plastic bag and keep it with my stencil. Or don't save them and just draw in those tiny parts :)
