The Sketchmarkers look very interesting, but do I need more supplies???? Of course! In time I'm sure I'll give them a try. So strange how some of the colors water out. Thanks for giving us such an in-depth look at the different brands.

This video lesson was very interesting, seeing the different brands of markers tested on the different papers. I have swatched all my marker sets, but never did a swatch chart with water & brush on the water based markers. Just added that to my To Do List.

Super interesting!! I only use my Tombows w/small images on Bristol. I've found the waterbrushes have their place (I also have Arteza)but now that I've bought a set of watercolors, there's no comparison! I only use my Arches for special occasions hahaha!

Thank you. I like watercolor paper, and have had issues with the color changes when I try to use water with waterbased markers. I thought I was crazy or just not doing the correct techniques. Thank you very informative, and interesting.

UV resistance is important if you hang your art on a wall with strong sun exposure. I’m surprised by the color difference when wet and I know why it happens. It seems the differences in prices are the nib quality and the ink quality. Thank you for sharing this as you could be so disappointed if you don’t know about this. Wish there were more alcohol ink markers at a reasonable price. Something maybe mid range pricing

Unfortunately if you go cheaper on alcohol based markers you’ll run into the same cheap material quality. Something always has to suffer when companies try to undercut the good art supplies. You just can’t make things out of air.

I loved this video. I have the Albrect Durer and the Zig Clean Color. I also got some Kiran Pro Brush Markers. I just got them and I am still seeing what they will do. Kiran also makes a Decocolor Marker that's acrylic.

This was incredibly helpful. I had eyeballed the AD markers since I fell in love with their Polychromos pencils, but I've been happily using Zig for so long that I didn't give it any mind. I'm going to circle back to those markers now. I still love my Zig's, but the vibrancy of the AD markers made me want to try them. I can almost hear my wallet groaning again from the other room.

This is great. I can’t get Canson XL watercolour paper easily here. Would Fabriano Bristol be an equivalent because Eckersleys says that’s also cellulose?

Extremely interesting video! I'm so surprised with the blacks that turned another color...makes no sense to me. Are there ways to counteract that?? Thank you...

No, that’s just how they are. It’s because they’re made with cheap ink/pigment it whatever is in them. I once assumed it was because it wasn’t possible to make water based colors that didn’t shift but could be put in a marker…but the artist grade pens shot that theory down.

I do like them a lot. But honestly it depends on what you end up using. I can’t tell you how long these last by comparison to the crafty ones, since I’ve only had them a short while. Check out the video coming on Friday and that might help you make the decision if it’s something you need 🥰

I only have the Tombow markers as a consequence of using AI stamps, which I dearly love. Would the other markers work as well for AI?

Yes the Sketchmarkers do well with that. But if you already have Tombows use them! Eventually they’ll dry out and you can try something different ❤️

Sandy, do you think the type of water (well, softened, distilled, etc.) used affects the colour of the swatches?

Doubtful, but I’ve not tested that.

Yes the watercolor paper. The mixed media doesn’t work so well.

So help me out here... why would I use these instead of just brush and paint? I have only ever used water based markers for lettering projects.

Some find starting with paint to be very intimidated-color moving every which way. Whereas watercolor markers or pencils give you time to think and sketch , then add water once you’re ready. 😍

From the thumbnail I thought the artist grade markers were the white ones... I had completely forgotten about the Albrecht Dürer markers! I wonder if Faber Castell did a horrible job marketing those markers or if it's simply not a product many artists use.

Well if other artists or anything like me, they just assumed markers were a craft product. I didn’t take them seriously since they weren’t lightfast. But now….. maybe I’ll use these more! (but never rule out terrible marketing by an art company!)

How does the Karin Brushmarker Pro compare to the other four? Would pigment watercolor markers be in the same genre as the four you compared in this video?

I don’t have the Karin here to test-but pigment markers are a whole different animal. Or uh pen. 🤣 Think if the differences between pigment inks and distress inks-they’re made for entirely different purposes.

I was shocked when I compared the prices. The Albrecht Durer are only a little more expensive.

Right? Although if you buy the Albrecht by the onesies you can pay about six bucks a pen. It’s definitely worth it to get the set.
