My kingdom for one of these miniPCs that list ECC support on their spec sheet. in fact, I'd love one that doesn't try to skirt this line of "its a miniPC for your desk! dual monitors and tons of I/O for accessories!" and "It's good enough for server class workloads". So many of them are good enough for that, in raw compute, but fall short in storage redundancy (just give me two m.2 slots) and 2.5GbE as the best networking you're probably gonna get. That Minisforum thing that has a low-height PCIe slot gets close, but Intel is still trying to screw over consumers by gating ECC behind "enterprise" SKUs, and Minisforums AMD version of the same box...gets rid of the PCIe slot!!! I’m wondering about what would be the best or most intuitive comparison for graphics benchmarks for those of us who don’t know too much about other similar CPUs, especially as many of us start homelabs out of frustration with modern tech services and it feels like more people are getting into it every day. I would have thought maybe comparing 3DMark and maybe even Cinebench scores with a Steam Deck? I know it doesn’t ship with Windows so it’s not 1:1, but it seems like a more intuitive comparison than relatively niche APUs. At close to $989, you can DEFINITELY get a cheaper AMD system for SIGNIFICANTLY lower cost and not lose much in the way of performance. (And you save on power as well.) The $989 variant of this has 32 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM, and a 2 TB NVMe SSD. Compare and contrast that with the Minisforum MS-A1 with the 8700G, also 32 GB of DDR5-5200 RAM, and a 1 TB NVMe SSD, but that's priced at $729, which is a whole $260 less (or 26.3% cheaper) for only ~6.5% lower performance based on 3DMark Fire Strike. That's a pretty good deal if you ask me. I do recognise those, that I think with the MS-A1, you can only drive three displays rather than four, natively, out of the box. If you go with the MS-01 instead, at $839 for the 13900H, 32 GB, 1 TB, that's 15.1% lower price, and only 6.7% lower performance (in Cinebench R23), and the MS-01 has dual 10 GbE SFP+ ports, but again, also only supports upto 3 displays.
@CraftComputing2 ай бұрын
All good options. And it's nice to have options. Just because a product isn't the BEST deal on the market doesn't make it a bad product. This is less than half the size of the MS-01 or MS-A1, draws less power than the 8700G, is faster than both, and has a much smaller power brick. That might be worth $100-200 to someone over raw specs or 'value'.
