Gnome? Why use a caveman window manager and complain about window management?

I wonder if Bazzite is a better option in a dual boot configuration on the ROG Ally X than even the new Legion Go S with Steam OS because that console is configured with more RAM.

The rumor is the 5070 in raster will perform like a 4070ti in raster. Still very fast and I think very impressive considering it’s on the same process note

Linux combined with wine and playonlinux has improved 2000 percent since the beginning years. I started using linux prior to version 1.0. Back then most hardware and applications had to be installed within Terminal. It has been my main system for the last ten years. I even primarily game on Linux now.

My socket 2011 build started with the cheapest CPU i7-3820 in 2012 and then for giggles went to most expensive CPU the 2697v2 in 2020. It works and games well enough with my 5700XT, but I think the CPU is starting to be a bottleneck. My next GPU purchase is going to likely need to be quickly followed up by MB+CPU+Mem. Might try a 1680v4 build just for kicks.

Try Heroic games launcher as an alternative for Lutris. It only works for Amazon Games, GoG and Epic, but it has the advantage of working with gamepad!

Linux has been my daily driver for close to 30 years. Based on this video you are not a "typical" computer user so you are likely to run in to issues that other users would not. GIMP and Krita are *not* the same as Photoshop but both allow you to edit images. As a high end PS user you may be able to do what you need to do using GIMP or Krita just not as easily unless there is a way to make a script to automate a given task. Resolve not showing some of the usual window management controls in the corner of a window is very odd if that is the only program missing those features. BTW, another video editor you can also look at is Lightworks which is used in the movie industry. A quick check of their site indicates it may have support for AAC (but it might only be in the paid version). The Linux versions of programs that were mainly written for Windows often lag behind in available features. Zoom still doesn't have Original Sound For Musicians, for example. If you want to have windows start up in given place use the geometry settings. My desktop runs a shell script at login to put a terminal window in the bottom left corner of my screen of a fixed size (/usr/bin/mate-terminal --geometry=80x25+0+621).

The AI processor seems to just an updated version of Orin AGX, i am actually surprized the FP8 isnt that much better than the 64GB Orin AGX i was expecting more than double going from 8nm Ampere to 4nm Blackwell with a larger die and AFIK a higher TDP. My problem is the price From what i've seen It is not 2x faster than the Orin, but it is 2X the price. Now i dont know if AGX Orin supports FP4 so that may be worth the added cost. What i want to see from the 50 series is how they compare to other cards using framegen off, FG2x and FG4x I already dont like the added latency of FG2X, i am holding out hope that 4X isnt much worse but if its any worse than 2X i'm not using it except for where i'm already getting 120fps native and total sytstem latency is under 20ms which is quite rate but i'd need a new monitor to drive this FPS FYI SteamOS native has been working pretty well with anything 6800/7735 based, the problem are custom controls and screen resolutions I dont have the GPD but on my devices it works. My problem is that its immutable, so on most of my handhelds with more than 16GB of RAM i actually run Windows with Steam big picture set to launch at boot. Really wish Lenovo had a 24 or 32GB version of the Legion GO tired of my 32GB aftermarket getting set back down to 16GB with every BIOS update because the SPD is in the BIOS instead of on the RAM chips. 16GB is just not ideal for windows because of how it handles VRAM, dedicating VRAM shouldnt make gaming on windows faster, but it does, but 16GB just isnt enough to split up on windows because you want at least 4GB, preferably 8, leaving only 8GB for the CPU, but at idle on the desktop its using like 7GB

And for those wondering, I received my board today. (The one above he is talking about) - If you want to order it with memory, you will get 4 sticks of ECC 16GB and the board will of course see 64gb. You also get the Xeon 2680 already placed into the socket. Mine has some thermal paste remnants on it, so in case you weren't sure, both board and cpu will be used. You'll need to provide your own heatsink/fan combo. The board comes up and runs just fine. One notable issue, I did not receive a case backplane shield so when you put this in your case, you're gonna have a big airgap. I am going to contact the seller about this. Also, there is no manual so your front panel pins you will need to troubleshoot. I already have a query in to the seller about the manual. I did a quick install of Win 11 just for fun and it does not detect the onboard NICS (2.5g). I put a nic in that WAS detected by Win11 and did all the windows updates. STILL the nics were not detected. Gonna have to do some research on this chipset and see if I can discover the drivers. Of course I won't be running Win11 on it, I think I will run unraid which probably WILL see the NICS. I hope this is helpful for all those on the fence about buying this. With the exception of the missing backplane, I consider this to be a good purchase. EDIT, I probably should have noticed it on the purchase site but the board uses the Intel i226 chipset for the LAN. Easy enought to do a search and find the needed drivers.

Hi Jeff, thanks for your info, hope you have time for this. My new(er) version of proxmox is giving me a headache. The install went fine following your previous instructions. The passtrough not so much. One thing I noticed is that my "nano /etc/kernel/cmdline" comes up with an empty file!? while yours shows : "root=ZFS=rpool/ROOT/pve-1 boot=zfs" Continue with the instructions I got an error after : "update-initramfs -u -k all" Don't have the message here ( its on another computer ) but is was EFI boot not found skipping.... After a lot of google I have it working now but I am afraid there still is something not quite right. One difference with your system and mine is I have one drive and ext4.

Curious how people rate this switch against something like the TP-Link Omada SG3210X-M2 with SDM in the same (affordable) price-range. Does this switch offer features usefull in a home-lab scenario that the tp-link doesn't?

Might even see if adding a 2nd dual NIC will allow me to move my pfsense to a vm setup. Excited for this series if it follows through - Thanks Jeff 🙂
