Wowza, 8,000 CFM of exhaust is a lot! Careful if you’re finishing in there with the doors closed and the fan on. 8,000 CFM out means you need to bring 8,000 CFM in, too. That’s a lot of negative pressure on those doors. Consider adding a means of intake to that room as well. Just a thought from your friendly HVAC engineer 😃

Yea, the door will be open when the face is on, making this room basically an open faced spray booth. I do think that CFM rating might be a little overkill but we'll see with some testing.

Assuming the ceiling tiles are 2'x4', the room appears to be about 13'x24'. Assuming a ceiling height of 10' (including the space above the drop ceiling), the room's volume is ~3120 cu.ft. A 8K cfm fan will suck all the air out of the room in about 22 seconds. Yes, I know, a fan is not a vacuum pump, so there is no way between Heaven and Earth can any fan turn the room into a vacuum chamber. And that is assuming the room itself won't just implode less than 1/2-way there.

I thought exactly the same, I think that he'll have to install a condensate pump, that will allow for it to drain properly. (I assume these are a thing in the US...?) I'm not an AC engineer, I just know that these get fitted over here in the UK

ceiling cassettes typically have a condensate pump internally installed from the factory

It has a pump built in. That's how the instructions show the plumbing in the MRCOOL manual.

i use to install heat pumps and for the drain they were always gravity drained and needed slope down. this unit may be different and have a pump? but be carful that it doesn't start leaking in the unit.

I built a fairly large spray booth back in the mid 90's. The fan pulled about 1 cubic foot for every square foot of the floor. (That is not code, but it is close enough for government work). The fan was 'explosion proof' (code requirement and very expensive). I mounted the lights on the outside of the booth and there was a piece of thick plexiglass between the lights and the room; it was sealed to the wall. The doors to the booth had filters set into them for clean make up air. Spray booths need to meet your local code. Ask permission and hopefully no forgiveness will be required.

Can you explain the fan volume equation? In my case, the room is 15 x 25, so are you saying I'd only need a fan rated at 375 cubic feet air velocity? That seems really low. I'm not going to be spraying anything solvent based or flammable so I'm not worried about the explosion proof stuff.

It still Buggles my mind that over there you guys are allowed to do your own electrical, building and plumbing work. Here in new Zealand the home owner (building owner) can only do the bare minimum e.g. changing a tap washer and that's it. Everything else most be done a licenced trades person.

As a semi amateur metal worker, and part time wood manipulator, I can tell you from experience that metal working and woodworking finishing should definitely *not* occupy the same room. Oil, Metal dust, and debris have ruined so many of my finishes with stains, scratches, discoloration, and dust, it’s infuriating. Pretty sure a person simply *can’t* clean up a metal working area well enough to do finish work in it.

They're extremely quick to install and allow for tons of flexibility when changing things in the future. As long as they're not too low, they shouldn't feel cramped and certainly not dirty.

Did you actually watch the video? The entire point of these MRCOOL DIY systems is that you don't need to pull a vacuum since the lineset is pre-charged with refrigerant.
