Crafting Explorers: Laced Leather Bracers

Greetings Explorers! Welcome to another leather craft online tutorial. This video is for anyone looking to add leather laced bracers to their renaissance, cosplay, or current attire!
Supplies:
• Thick leather
• Ruler
• Pen and/or pencil
• Cutting Instruments: X-Acto Knife, box cutter, and/or scissors
• Leather punch (multiple settings)
• Beveler
• Saddle soap
• Sponge
• Wood slicker or cardboard
• Leather stain and a means to apply it (cotton swabs, paper towels, Q-tips, etc)
• Water
• Needle and thread (usually artificial sinew)
• Tarps or covers to protect your stuff (protection mostly against stain accidents)
• Disposable gloves or gloves you don't mind stain getting on
• Grommets
• Hammer and appropriate anvil for grommets
• Leather cord
• Leather Sheen

Hi there. Really well thought out tutorial with easy to follow steps. It might be worth pointing out that you can only dye vegetable tanned leather as this was something that confused me when I started. I bought some Chrome tanned leather and tried to tool and dye 😮 Anyway, thank you for laying out exactly what is needed at the start of the video as not enough tutorials do this.

...... question ..... ☝🏾 ... , is it possible to have some type of fur or wool or something on the other side of the bracres where our arms can be in a kind of comfort ? ..... like a padding of some sort ? ........

Hello David, it would be possible to add some form of fur, wool, or padding to the other side. That would probably most easily added by saddle stitching or gluing (or both) it to the other side after punching holes in the appropriate spots for the grommets. A trim around the edge of the bracer would also probably look really nice and clean of the edges of the bracer with after the padding had been added.

Shouldn't the bracers be hardened, so they work as braces?

Thank you for the message. We did the video mostly for Cosplay and LARP fun, but these definitely could be boiled in water, shaped, and hardened. The type of leather used is pretty thick, so not entirely necessary to harden. Thank you for the inquiry.
