I'm so glad you made this design and tutorial. I have some extra wide towels that are also heavier weight and the other patterns I've followed don't work well with them. I can't wait to try this - pretty sure this double button topper will support these towels. Thanks!

When I was a child and learned embroidery stitches from my seamstress grandmother, I was taught that stitch you started out with is called 'chain stitch'. Since then, I have many times bought embroidery kits and that stitch was called 'chain stitch' in them too.

Hello flower, this is a hand embroidery stitch, it is called CHAIN STITCH because it looks like a chain just as if you were crocheting a chain. Blanket stitch is done on the edge still having the yarn going under your needle but it looks like a U when knitted !_!_!_!_!_!_! I hope that this helps you flower. Thank you for a lovely project as my friend makes had towels edged like this for my christmas each so that i can hang them on my cupboard handles. x

Thank you for sharing this lovely pattern with us. I have made 4 of these toppers, but am currently using 20mm wood buttons, and I don't think they will hold up to repeated washing in the washer and dryer, so I am hesitant about gifting them to family and friends. It looks to me like you are using either a plastic or resin button, and I was wondering if you would be able to supply me with a source to purchase the buttons you use... I am having difficulty finding them.
@CraftingShed
@CraftingShed 5 жыл бұрын
I use plastic buttons. There's a fabric store family-owned in my area. That's where I get my supplies. I also buy some supplies at Walmart.

I made this towel topper in a hurry and didn't have the right sized buttons so I just hung it on my cabinet knob. I folded it down to double it just like you have it in the picture but since the stitches have enough room between them I was able to hang it over the knob. Looks like a button! Just a suggestion. 😊 I don't think I have the ability to post a picture of it.
@CraftingShed
@CraftingShed 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think I can picture what you're doing. Your knobs are right size for the stitch, is that right? Awesome! I'm so glad you found a creative way to do it. Thank you for the suggestion! ☺

I am trying very hard to find what the shell pattern is called on the internet and can not, for the life of me, find it. This seems like a cross between a shell and blanket stitch as far as I can tell. I would love to make a blanket with these half shells (as I've started calling them in my head). Do you by chance know the multiples I would need to make this lay flat? (I enjoyed the pattern a ton and loved making the towel, thank you for this).
@CraftingShed

Yes, this might be a multiple of 3. Hope this helps. Thank you!

My towel is 11 inches wide. If I make a stitch every half inch that is 22 stitches. Can you please tell me what the number of stitches would be for the next row? Thank you.
@justagramma
@justagramma 3 жыл бұрын
I guess I wasn't paying attention when you said to make 35 stitches initially so when I got to the third row I only had 40 some stitches after the decreasing so I'm just going to continue and see how it works out.I did mark my towl to make a stitch every half inch but it didnt turn out to be 35

So sorry, but I can't figure out how you attach the yarn to start crocheting. When you stitch across the top that yarn was cut off from the rest of the skeen. How did you attach the yarn to start the crochet section?

Hi there, I’m working on this right now. Great looking pattern! I’m excited, my first crocheted towel, my G’ma used to make them. Quick question..do you have to stitch exactly 35 in the beginning?
@CraftingShed
@CraftingShed 6 жыл бұрын
No, it doesn't have to be 35 stitches. What is important is you evenly stitch about 69 to 70 single crochets in row 1 and about 50 to 54 single crochets for row 2. Thank you for your question.

@CraftingShed

No, I don't have a special way of threading yarn through the needle. The tapestry/blunt needle that I'm using has a large eye, so the yarns usually go through without problem. Thank you for your question.
