I've been trying to find a way to make the resin not cloudy after the silicone and the clear nail polish worked so great! Thank you!!! ❤
@bbaaccyklock94411 жыл бұрын
I love the cloudy look I think it looks really professional like coasters you buy in a store
@rationalskeptic19 жыл бұрын
Just a couple of tips that your video made me think of.. :) I purchased silicone baking trays off of amazon in the shape of coasters that work perfectly well for this exact technique. They're actually shiny and don't leave a cloudy finish which is an extra plus. Also I've found that clear nail polish can chip and turn yellow over time so I personally don't use it, but I've found a way to clean up brushes used for resin so you can use them with your resin over and over! Just wipe them well when the resin is still wet, then clean with cooking oil and soap, then soap and water, and they're good as new! Hope this helped :)

+quinna This is a pretty old video. I have actually been using some silicone baking trays for quite a while. They are so much better! That's a great tip with the cooking oil and soap. Thanks!

I have found that wiping down with Vaseline then using soap and water works wonders also.

Pour a base layer of resin, then allow it to firm up, but not cure completely. Over this, pour a layer of clean, fine white sand (or colored if you prefer). Nestle some small shells, beach pebbles, beach glass, bits of seaweed, etc in/on the sand and then pour your final top layer of resin. If you can find some small starfish, sea horses, fish, crabs, etc. all the better. Check out your local tropical fish store (or the fish tank section of WalMart maybe) for the sand, and for ideas of other things you can embed in your seashore coaster. ...and don't forget to pick up some little rubber stick-on feet for your coaster too. The resin might not scratch furniture, but the coaster will slide around on it without the rubber feet.

Those are great ideas. Someone else had suggested old jewelry too. I'll have to check out some garage sales this summer and see what I can find. Yes it probably would be cheaper, but my area isn't that well ventilated and I like that the Easy Cast is low odor. I don't believe they sell that in big jugs.

To clean paint brushes from resin, I squirt some 90% rubbing alcohol on a paper towel, and set the brush end in it, then squirt a little more on the brush. Then I rub vigorously with the brush to separate the fibers. I use the natural hair brushes, and this works especially well. I do it a couple times, until the brush feels soft again. I keep a small dropper bottle of alcohol on my desk for this and for Sharpie, Stazon, and alcohol ink cleanups, all the time.

Oh one more thing! The resin I use is called clear cast 7000 and it's AMAZING! I get it on Amazon too. It's super clear with no yellow tint, and the best part is there are no bubbles! It is such a good quality resin, I love how clear everything turns out. That's all, thanks!:)

Thanks. I couldn't find a resin mold for a coaster. I've been doing the straw blowing, but my last three resin project have had these really tiny bubbles that I haven't had before. I can't figure out why. I thought maybe the resin was too cold, so I had it in warm water, but it happened anyway. Two different packages of resin too. Go figure.

Clean brush by swishing it in 91% rubbing alcohol and wiping dry on a paper towel. If it feels sticky do it again. After the stickiness is gone, I also dip my brush and swish it in Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner which I found in the artists paint supplies at Michaels (hardware stores want you to buy large containers of mineral spirits but this is a small bottle and it lasts a long time). It seems to keep the brushes soft like new. I also clean my smaller cups out with rubbing alcohol each time so I'm not spending a fortune on cups. Working on a ceramic tile, I can scrape up drips after they harden, with no damage to the ceramic tile.

Gosh. I wonder why. Are you using a latex glove and do you maybe have an allergy to latex? I try to keep the easycast off my skin, but usually I get some on it anyway. Here is a suggestion and I have no idea if it will work, but what if you put vaseline on your hands beforehand, so it can't soak in and come into direct contact with your skin? It might be worth a shot. Mona
@Arkie806 жыл бұрын
Once the resin is fully hardened it can be wet sanded with sanding films or sand paper with progressively finer grit then clear coated. Some resin is hard enough you dont need to coat it after. Avoid larger grits and start with about 400 grit. Give it about 3 weeks to fully harden. It should be well finished by then.

You could make some coasters with some old pieces of jewelry. Or you could buy the different colored Marti Gras beads at the dollar store & use them plus they also have colored tinsel & rainbow bag filler that you could use. Since you are doing a lot of resin wouldn't it be cheaper to buy big containers of resin & hardner like at Lowes or Home Depot?
