I have the Porter Cable, which is basically just a reskinned version of this. It's definitely a good starter machine, I'm sure the Craftsman is pretty good too. Just a little tip, if you're not using the dust collection, take off that shroud that covers the chip ejection port, it'll help keep your chips from clogging up too badly. Thanks for the video :)

Hi. This was an excellent presentation. I see everyone says jointer is for one edge and one side , but nobody explains the logic of why one should use table saw for the other edge and planer for flattening the other side. I can understand one must use a planer to make both sides parallel but I don’t understand why I can not use jointer to only flatten both sides. I wish someone would explain the reasoning and the logic.

With my shop vac hooked to my Craftsman jointer, am haveing problems with the shaving getting clogged in the machine. Then they are blown out of the top of the cutter and backwards. Not sure what ia going on and my shop vac is doing it's job.

Just so you are aware. It sounds like you are putting too much pressure down on the material when pushing it along the table. Also, as soon as you have enough wood on the outfeed side to push on, you need to put the pressure on that side only. It will make your boards much flatter. One last thing, a jointer is designed to do one edge and one flat side. Nothing more. To get the other side flat and parallel to the one you just did, you need to put it through a thickness planer using the side you just did as your flat reference. Then take the piece to a table saw and square off the other edge.

These are all things I did not know!!! Thank you so much! I’ll have to do a follow up video! This is definitely the first time I’ve ever used a jointer so I’m pretty fresh 😆🤓

I have one on the way, as some of the other guys mentioned it looks like the shavings are not coming out the port . Think I’ll do the same with it as I do the planer, leave it off and just use it outdoors with me upwind. Thss as no’s for the video👍🏻

Now that's the way to put a machine to the test! I am thinking about getting this jointer, would you recommend it? And how is it holding up for you?

Great question! I haven’t tried mounting it but I clamp it down and it works great! Definitely something I’m still getting the hang of!

Looks good but I see the dust port is useless LOL.

Yeah unless you got something pulling like a dust collector
