B&M brown bread is really good sliced and toasted. I usually just butter it and eat like that.

With pork roast, in CT! Now the raisin grilled in butter in cast iron fry pan over the fire with eggs when camping, for breakfast or heated in the can (open) in the fire with bean soup. Yum! Love that ruler! Such a beautiful regrind on the nose of those pliers!

When I was a kid the National Guard would come down from Grayling, MI on their way somewhere. They would bivouac at Waterworks Park in Coldwater. They were about a block from my parents house. The Guards would send us kids to the Burger and Chix to pick up food for them. They paid for the burgers. A whole quarter for a burger. Then since they couldn't take the C Rations back they would give it to us. We carried that stuff when we went back in the woods behind the ice skating pond. The canned bread usually had peanut butter and orange marmalade in the box too. The bread was about half the size of the B&M canned bread. More like a dinner roll. Good stuff. Nixon stopped Viet Nam before my lottery number came up so I never went in the military. 😁

Dad told me about using the orange marmalade to distract the bees and wasps in France. They would take a slice of bread and cover it with the marmalade that nobody liked and set it over 30 or 40 feet away. All the bugs went over and left Dad, and the rest of the Anti Aircraft Battery he was a part of, alone while they ate.

Good show ScoutCrafter. I went in the Army in 1966 and was just introduced once to C-rations and never had any since for which I am continuously grateful because ----- Army food was practically OK. That Dake is very cool. I have various boxwood rules. They are quite nice.

Enlisted in the ARMY 70-74. Many “C” Rations on maneuvers in Germany with NATO troops. Don’t ever recall seeing canned bread. You should have used your P38 to open the can! Nicely done cleanup and tightening on those Craftsman pliers. I’ll have to try the Vaseline and mineral oil on my tools that live in my attached garage. Thanks for another great video. God Bless, have a great weekend, and don’t interact with the chooches!

Thanks John, you sure squeezed a lot in there, tinned bread, never heard of that before, people are a bit sniffy about tinned food these days but as you say it's good beyond it's best before and often has less preservatives ! Alll the restorations were of interest the pliers really showed the value of the press, the Hex's are a simple practical tool set and the rule came out great, I believe the BCF has Oxalic acid in it which of course is a great wood stain remover !

Another great episode John. my stint with Uncle Sam was as a tank commander during the late 70's, we had C-rations, my favorite was the canned peaches and pound cake. The container also included a chocolate disk that was referred to as a "John Wayne Bar" about 3 inches in diameter, It was not very tasty, but as a weapon it had a maximum effective range of about ten feet.

I got out of basic training just before the M16 was introduced, I got to fire it later on, but I still preferred the M14 to the first M16’s that came out, but, I was trained on the 14, so, a little predigest because of familiar feel I think. Glass and cans, I’m with you on that one, be interesting to look into how they process that canned bread, I’ll have to look into it, never thought about it before. Thanks for the tips on the needle nose pliers and wood ruler, I’ll put those ideas to work for sure, thanks for the show, enjoyed watching.

For the record. Modern canned food does go bad. Eventually! I was recently looking through the pantry for a can of tomato soup for my wife. I found a can with a best buy date of 2018. She was willing to try it! I heated it on the stovetop as usual. She took one sip off a spoon and immediately went to spit it out! Her words were, "That's not food anymore!". She said it tasted more like the can, than tomato soup!

The canned brown bread has stirred up vague memories of church pot-luck suppers. At least I think thats where I remember it from. I’m sure that someone used to bring sandwiches that were cream cheese on date nut bread. I was a fussy eater as a kid and didn’t like to try new foods but I guess I was willing to try anything as long as it was a sandwich

I was stationed in the Army in upstate NY during the early 80's and was assigned to the 295th MP Co in SEAD Romulus NY. We wore that same unit patch as the cool guy on the left in the Vic Morrow helmet. Since it was the early 80's we had just begun to leave the OD greens in favor of the woodland Camo but the patch was still the same. Sadly Pres. Clinton closed the base and it is no longer in existence.

Great to see the DAKE in action. That Took the rattle out of those pliers 😃👍 . Again you knock that one out of the park ! 🏟 ⚾️⚾️⚾️ 🔥👍👍 Those Klein T-Handle Hex key set turned out Fantastic. Great to see you got the original package clean with those Tub O Towels, they are awesome! 👍 Also that 50/50 protective coating really makes them look brand new again. You need to Patent that stuff! 😃👍👍 That antique folding ruler turned out fantastic.That Bar Keepers Friend is some great stuff! Bread in a can..never heard of that but I really like the idea. We dont have that around here. When I was in the scouts in the 70s we went on an adventure and each one of us had to bring a meal. I went to a cheap store like an aldis back then and got a bag of dinner rolls and a can of corn and a whole chicken in a can. My tent mate and I thought it was gross and didnt eat that nite but ol' willie came around because he never brought food and begged from everyone and we said eat all you want. He was gone from school for days with food poisoning real bad. He never begged for food ever again and that made all happy. We did not know it was bad but knew it was gross. Ever see the episode of M*A*S*H* where charles and hot lips share the pheasant in a can?? I laff my a** off every time that is on, They were so sic.

Boston Brown Bread is an old favorite. It's not baked but boiled. 16 grams of sugar is to much for my blood sugar level. A can of that will take care of surprise guest with jam and peanut butter as well as cream cheese if you have it. That with tea and coffee your hospitality rating will not fall.

Hey John, This might be a good video for you to put out. You've shown how to tighten up the pivot on pliers a few times but how do you loosen up a pair if they have been pressed to tight. I have a new pair of Leatherman Wave+ pliers that came to tight and want to make them looser. What is your preferred method to get them right? This would also work if you fix a pair like you did in this video if you go to far. Thanks buddy
@ScoutCrafter
@ScoutCrafter 2 ай бұрын
The leatherman pliers are really annoying when they are overly tight- I loosened a pair of pliers once by taking lapping or grinding compound with my thumb and pressing it into the rivet area and working the pliers back and forth- a little WD-40 added to help get the paste into the joint and it worked like a charm- Once it loosened up a little I made sure to apply lots of WD-40 to wash out any remaining grit from the joint. 😃👍

What's really funny about canned bread is that some folks think it would be loaded with preservatives... the REAL game is that the "fresh" bread you buy at the supermarket in plastic bags has MUCH MORE preservatives than stuff in a can! Great story. I would guess if the situation got desperate you could always throw the fruit cake at the enemy.😉 and what kind of maniac doesn’t love the Dake???

A very interesting video, but is there a way to slacken off the rivet on pliers which I have where two hands are needed to open them, they are a good quality pair, but just too tight, I have tried penetrating oil and other oils opening and closing them dozens of times, but that idea is not working, it needs the rivet slackening off somehow?

I skipped forward to the needle nose plyers. I love seeing tools restored so they are back in service. Nice!

John, I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I imagine you were issued a weapon when you were in the Marines? If so, what did you have and could you share any thoughts about it? Have a great weekend.

Brian- We were issued the improved M16-A2 variants. Very good weapon and extremely accurate up to 800 meters and beyond. 😂👍.
