I had an ‘84 Craftsman given to me for free a few months back. When I finally get a place to set up shop I want to tear it down and restore it to proper order before putting it to use. You make it seem so effortless besides the part saying that I’d need four guys to put the column back on.

They are handy tools to have around ... I thought I would replace my table saw & Miter saw with this.. But I found out you still need a table saw...LOL And KZbin allows people to make things look easier then what they are...Trust me when I say I cut out alot of the struggles ...

Congratulations!! I've rebuilt a few Craftsman table saws & RAS's, and it's getting more and more difficult to find originl parts for these machines.... maybe Dewalt will start to make more replacement parts.

I agree, I appreciate this video and what to look at when shopping for a used Craftsman RAS, but I wish you hadn’t sped through the teardown, tbh. I do understand though, filming while doing things is easier said than done. This is still important information shared and appreciated. Whether they’re “good enough” or lesser saws than DeWalt or Delta, or early Craftsman cast iron arm saws, this really showed the innards!! Thanks for the video!!

Nice Man 👍🏻 I remember spending hours in the garage with my Pops watching him make furniture 🪑 with his 10” Craftsman Radial Saw. Now I have one that I inherited at my Moms house and and I picking up another one today. These saws are timeless 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Nice quality work my man just subbed..

These saws are an absolute steal for the price they are selling (or being given away for). A lot of people are spooked thinking they are dangerous, but honestly if you understand how the saw functions, they are less dangerous than a regular power saw.

on my Craftsman, once you remove the motor carriage, getting the column and arm into place isn't too tough. It's a whole lot lighter without the motor attached. Again, on my unit, removing the stopping screw underneath the tip of the arm lets the carriage roll off the front of the rails. Unfortunately, while bolting the arm to the base, that's when you have to adjust the tilt of the arm. Or you can devise ways to tilt the table to match the tilt of the arm, like maybe adding shims underneath.

10:15 Thank you for this. I have the same tool and avoided this step since I don't have the manpower. Unfortunately the previous owner didn't clean it up and broke the crank exactly where you would expect...The plastic. I think I might resort to JB weld

Sounds nice . The older Sears are best, but that looks like it has the cast arm .The old 12" Sears don't pass on . Alignment is critical. I had Sears set one up years ago and it was ridiculously out of alignment. Next challenge is to pickup a used DeWalt 16" out of the fifties . Rebuilt they bring some serious money.

My craftsman radial arm saw has a problem. The big arm that has the motor moves left to right. I had it set up just right. After using it I found that I could not get a perfect 90 cut every time. So if I grab the arm at the end it will move about a quarter inch. What would cause this?

Do you think you can send a picture of the tower bevel gear assembly? I took mine apart too long ago and can't find the correct way to put it back together. I had to find a used bevel gear lift screw, but don't remember how it came apart! Haha. You did a great job too sir!

I need to take my radial arm saw apart AND figure out how to put it back together. (I think I have a loose/broken track. Seeing all the parts on a bench doesn't help. Where can I find a detailed step-by-step guide? (It's a 10" Craftsman.)

I have a 1975 craftsman 10 inch. All you have to do is search your model number and include the letters PDF at the end. Tap it, and it downloads a complete user guide that includes a detailed parts list and drawings of how they go together. If you can't find it, then reply back here with your model number and I would be happy to respond back here with a link to it. Have a Blessed day.

Many of the black parts have oxide finishes so paint would not be the best option. I rebuild one of these saws and used cold bluing. Unlike paint it does not scratch off of cause binding. It also looks more like OEM.

I was helping a friend get rid of some debris from a worksite, and in one of the buildings was one of those saws but older. The owner wanted it thrown away, and gladly gave it to me. I’m having trouble getting some of the parts to restore it. Do you know any places where I could start looking? Thanks in advance!

My husband and I picked up a Craftsman 10” ras but it has radial 100 on the front of it and we can’t find a serial or model number on it anywhere. It came with a two prong plug and a two push button (like the ones on blenders) on and off switch. I was wondering if you would know anything about it?

😅 okay and try a little harder I figured it out. Took the gray handle off and then the cover behind it and then took off the locking plate with the four bolts on the inside and had to hammer up and down the bevel pen to get it unstuck with lots of WD-40 or liquid wrench and then the spring started to kick in the action after several sprays and cleaning the pen top and bottom.

I just had to do this by myself. This is not a pat on the back, just a helpful tip for anyone that doesn't have his resources. I laid the whole unit on its face and moved the set screws all the way out so that the brass guides were as far apart as they could go. The shaft goes back into place fairly easy. Once you have the two brackets on just past hand tight you can then lift the whole thing back upright then finish tightening the brackets. Then, and only then, should you turn all the set screws back in half a turn at a time each until they all start to touch then adjust from there. Hope this keeps some of ya'll from screaming at the night like I was.

I purchased a 113 29411 Craftsman (or about). Everything worked fine except the bevel function. The handle would not budge. I am not the kind that likes to go gorilla on materials that appear to be designed for less force. I looked all over the net for some help on how to diagnose the problem although several videos are out there on similar models, not detailed enough to be helpful to me. I downloaded a manual, but the description and diagram were far less than helpful for the bevel apparatus. (I am not a mechanic.) As I said the handle would NOT BUDGE! I think the saw has sat for a long time and things have gotten dry. I finally made sure the thumb catch on the bevel latch was up all the way. It was very difficult to move at first. I used a light penetrating oil, left it for a couple of days, then used a small block and tapped the block against the thumb catch. LIGHTLY. Finally it moved. I worked it up and down multiple times to improve the movement. (By the way, moving the pin UP releases the handle to move...something the instructions didn't mention.) (The whole mechanism strikes me as under manufactured and under designed.) Next I loosened the knob on the handle. Next I loosened the hex bolts (four) yet still no movement. I then decided to drop the motor to see if something was wrong on the pivot points on the motor side of the mounts. (Again, I didn't find any detailed video or instructions on how this was to be done...winged it.) After finding out that the two 3/8 bolts on the back side needed to be removed and the small plate should be pried out carefully the far pivot of the motor was free. Yet the motor didn't free itself on the side where the handle was at. (I had a block under the motor to control it from a sudden drop. ) I then took a small block of wood and placed it against the handle and struck the block with a hammer semi hard. After a couple of times, the handle moved a bit. I had a few more strikes and the handle came out and off and the motor settled down on the block. Now I started cleaning the parts. The handle mechanism is made out of poured lite metal (maybe aluminum.) corrosion had occurred between parts that came into contact. Not much...but certainly enough to cause the problem. I used a small brass brush and lite oil to clean all contact surfaces all through the pivot mounting system. After which I reassembled the entire system. Now the handle, pin catch, and pivot mechanism works like new. I hope this helps someone who just wants to use a good RAS saw for home projects with this problem. I hope it saves you hours of looking at RAS videos and researching the net.

Hey man, first off great video. I can't believe my luck in finding it actually, as i'm going to attempt to do more or less exactly what you did.. Except I don't have a sandblaster yet and your garage makes mine look like a shack of despair. Secondly, i have a 1975 Craftsman 10" RAS, the 113.23100 Model. I found it on FB Marketplace, and a fellow contractor had it listed and during negotiations gave up on it and gave it to me for free. The good: It was free, it turns on, and it will crosscut. The bad: Everything else is completely seized. I think my model may be older, but it should be relatively similar to yours in regards to the tear down and overall disassembly, correct? I'm intending on doing more or less what you did, minus the sandblasting as i don't own one, or have room for it, yet. I'm actually intending on using the RAS to make my first workbench, currently i'm using some crappy 'tables' that came with my property. The motor itself will not pivot what so ever, neither to stage for a miter, or to rip cut. Anything i should be worried about finding in there? I'm assuming it's just rusted and seized (The saw in general is in ROUGH shape). While i know they're nothing 'special', there's definitely something about older tech and specifically tools. It's crazy to ponder how many individuals have potentially handled and utilized these old tools.
