Just saw this as well; it is genius! It never really crossed my mind to install in this configuration, provides a nice accessible top shelf, as he said. I might install mine a bit higher for ease of reaching into that bottom shelf.

I just picked up the 48 inch cabinet at Lowes. I got it for 75 bucks (from 449)!! because the box was torn up. I had to hammer out one crinkled panel. It is amazing! I use it to store my scan tools and diagnostic stuff.

Can the 28 inch cabinet be used as a floor unit to hold a 20x8x12 tool box over? Maybe adding some wheels?

The sheet metal in these units is pretty thin and nothing is welded. You would have to brace it internally to handle the weight. I think you're better off buying a product actually designed to do what you want.

How did you hang the large cabinet on the Versatrack?

The bottom is resting on 3/4 thick wood and I lag bolted the frame to the wall. I had the whole shop lined with 1/2" plywood so I could mount almost anything anywhere and not rely on studs.

I like it. Great job? How did you secure the large cabinet to the walls? and what type of backing did you use?

There's 1/2" plywood behind all the 3/4" MDF slat wall. Just used 3/8 lag bolts with washers through the back of the factory holes of the cabinet to hold it up.
