I feel like crochet is more fun for artistic, artsy items like toys, blankets, bags and fun hats. Knitting is better for a lot of clothing items because it stretches well and often fits nicer (sweaters, socks, fingerless mittens, leg warmers, etc). But that's my own personal preference.
@MarsellaFyngold5 жыл бұрын
I feel like a lot of people would get that impression too from watching this. It is NOT at all an accurate representation of what you can do with knitting or the factors to consider that will affect your finished product in both knitting AND crochet. And yeah I know they cant squeeze that all into one video but they could touch on it better. Like ive seen crocheted sweaters and clothing items and the stretch and drape is all down to tension (which he kind of mentioned) but also hook size, and yarn selection. And for knitting there are SO MANY techniques to choose from! It's not all flat pieces sewn together but that's the impression this vid gives =/ uuugghhhn

@@MarsellaFyngold I both knit and crochet as well. But like I said, my comment was based upon my personal preferences. I, personally, find that crocheting is easier to get creative with because it is easier to create a variety of shapes and make sturdier, stiffer items. That makes it perfect for creating toys or funky items. When it comes to crochet clothing items, you can only get the same stretch that you do with knitting if you use a really loose stitch which makes the item less warm and more see through. But that's my own personal preference. I picked up knitting because I wanted to create more clothing items that I liked and I liked knitted clothing items.

I used to only knit for years, but when I started learning crochet in last spring it was SO much easier! My favourite thing in crochet when compared to knitting is that you only have one loop on your hook so unravelling accidents are nearly non-existent. I cannot count the times my knitting work has dropped off the needles. it's so frustrating! It's cool to be able to do both, as knitting is best for certain projects and crocheting for others.
@jeancrochets5 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. The reason I don't like knitting is because I keep dropping stitches and it unravels so much. I know with time I could get better but crochet is just so much easier to me so I'm sticking to that.
@emily30915 жыл бұрын
I agree dropping the work and trying to pick up all the stitches is awful
@SadisticSenpai615 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the person. I find knitting so much easier than croqueting - my biggest problem is tension. The needles hold most of the tension and the rest of it is just pulling tight when making a new stitch. But I've never been able to get the tension right for croqueting - my finger joints always end up aching and it's either too loose or too tight.

I do both. Self taught crochet for 10 years precisely because of Amigurumi and there was a custom piranha plant scarf I wanted to make. The most crochet I did was for the nyan cat rug/blanket on KZbin, 600+ tiny squares. I only recently started learning how to knit and have to say it is much better than crochet for garments and hats, the stitches compared to crochet IMO are just much prettier, and things fit better than crochet, more stretch and more forgiving in the fit. Plus I've just learnt raglan top down sweaters and it's so much easier than seaming up, combined with colour work I'm just having so much fun making sweaters and making pixel character motifs on them. Having said that, crochet is really good for beginners, there's no loose stitches to worry about, the variations on the stitches are much easier to understand! And nothing beats magic circle to make an actual plushie.

No way! I have dabbled in crochet and knitting for a bit the last few years, never really finished a project, because I was to impatient. last week I decided to make a scarf using small patches squares trying different patterns, excepting squares that show my progress and that show flaws. For now, mostly knitting, but I am planning to make a few squares using crochet. And to combine the two styles in one scarf. As I was brainstorming,I was wondering, could the dronken grandma stitch also be made with needles? Squares can be made using both. Is there a stitch that can be produced by both. For example the chain in crochet looks quite a bit like the cast on for knitting. So I started to make the chain with my hands hoping to continue with the knitting needles, but that didn't seem to work. As I am a newbie, I might be going all over the place, because I don't have the experience, I don't know the boundaries of each type. I am curious as to the overlap

in response to people who are asking for the pattern: I think the part of point is to show people that you don't NEED a pattern to make these sorts of things, I use to crochet things like this all the time and I never used a pattern, in fact I hated patterns because you have to be so meticulous on counting and keeping track of where you are and what you are doing or the whole thing gets messed up. granted as I grew I did learn to use patterns more and in leather-work, like I do now, patterns are so useful in insuring that you don't waste excess material and showing what the project will look like when it's done, but for this sort of project, I'd still rather not use a pattern, it gives and creates so much more creative freedom.

For a doll that will be dressed, I always crochet it because then you have a firm base to dress the doll. And for the clothes? I knit them because then they have drape and sit more like actual clothes.

Are you using I Love This Yarn brand of yarn? I do enjoy that slightly more premium acrylic yarn. It's soft an it doesn't seem to split as much or as easy when using it

Those are adorable. Do you use any references when creating your own patterns? Or is it just a "make it up as we go" ordeal?

I can both knit and crochet and also like to make toys. I’ve knitted and crocheted both, and I’ve always found crochet easier to make toys with.

I don’t care what anyone says... Crochet will ALWAYS be better than knit!!!!!! It’s a lot more versatile, works up faster, and just plain looks better.

I miss crochet, I wish it did not cause me so much wrist and shoulder pain. I promised my Daughter an amigrumi cake stuffy and it's going to take me 8 months of Sundays to finish. Knitting I could do all day, every day without pain.

I'm a little confused. Will this series have complete tutorials on how to make the items in both knit and crochet or will it just be little snippets on how to make the items? The animals in this one were very cute, but I didn't really learn how to make them.

This isn't a full episode, just a part of it. Full episodes are available on their paid streaming service. I haven't used it personally, but I would assume that they would include instructions in the full version.

What is the difference/pros/cons between a yarn over and a cast on stitch, in knitting, when increasing your stitches? Does it give a different appears with the holes or is just merely a personal preference and the outcome is is the same?
@gizmofox59955 жыл бұрын
I usually only use the backward loop cast-on for things like button holes, where you need to add a number of new stitches but don't have live stitches to work into. When you're working with a single stitch, a simple yarn over is going to be a lot faster than making a cast-on stitch. In terms of appearance, because the backwards loop cast on is twisted back on itself, it's going to leave a smaller hole. With a yarn over you can either knit it normally and leave a larger hole, or you can knit it through the or back loop and create the same twisted stitch that you would get from the cast on.

Actually we can imitate the amigurumi dog with knitting, we can make tiny circles, just that we need to use different tools. Well, actually we can use only DPNs to do the whole little dog, DPNs can knit tiny circles, but I know some are intimidated by DPNs because manouvring with multiple needles is sometimes kind of a pain in the neck, unless if you took it as a fascination, I like to feel 'ancient' l and enjoy looking 'complicated' so I kind of like DPNs. That said, like they've mentioned, crochet is still gonna hold its shape better because that's what it's good at, knitting is more suitable for clothings because of its drape. I usually prefer the look of knitting, and that's I'm a knitter not a crocheter, but in this video, I have to admit I actually like the crocheted dog better. So for once I've to give it to crochet this time.

Why are KTBL instead of a regular knit stitch?
@kristalburns34905 жыл бұрын
knit through the back loop
@sydbap215 жыл бұрын
It looks like she's a combination knitter, meaning that she technically twists her stitches when the purls(putting the front leg of the stitch at the back of the needle), and untwists them when the knits by knitting through the back loop. It's just a different style of knitting.

Great comparison but if you find a really good knit pattern I think they turn out much defined and neater. I do both crafts. Crochet is way faster but knitting is more neater.
