Crafty Patti, thank you so much for this fabulous tutorial. I am an intermediate knitter. I have knit socks on DPN's, but was inexplicably afraid of knitting a hat in the round. I appreciate how clear your written pattern is and how clear, calm and friendly your video is. It was like having a friend showing me how to do it. I finished my first hat knit in the round today. My hubby loves it and it fits him perfectly. My only issue was at the very end where I only had 16 stitches on my needles. I finally "got it," but not without some frogging and drama. Thank you again!

Thank you so much for a hat pattern that actually works for size, directions and simplicity. It looks nice and is so warm. Even the decrease section, when turned inside out works out all the way to the top without a flaw. So one has a choice of which side to use. It has worked out everytime I've knit it. Time to check out some more of your videos 😊

Oh, God bless you... This is EXACTLY what I needed. I am making a brioche knit scarf for a friend and she is asking for a matching hat, I will make her one. I was looking for a simple hat with a circular needle, and found a pattern elsewhere, but realized it also called for Double pointed needles to shape the top. Wasn't quite ready for that, and then voila, here you are! I just bought those exact same needles the other day, with the same size. I will be using 2 strands held together of worsted weight yarn though, I think this should work, right? Very good job on the tutorial, perfect for beginners at hat making, like me!

Thank you very much.Love the tutorial.
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts11 ай бұрын
Not to worry. Find the middle of your knitting and grab onto the wire or cable and pull it beyond the stitches on both sides so there is just cable sticking out with no stitches on it and the stitches are scooted up both sides of the needles. This will make it easier to finish your last stitches. As you work around the round you might have to pull the cord out a different spot for ease of knitting. I hope that made sense.

Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. One question: How many cast ons if a #6 Bulky yarn were used? Possibly 72? Thanks for your reply, it's very much appreciated.
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts11 ай бұрын
A bulky #6 yarn is not always the same in all brands. So it is best to knit up a little sample gauge. I also made up a knitting chart in one of my hat videos and that will help you as well. When you are changing up needle sizes and yarn sizes from original pattern than it is best to knit a small sample gauge. Cast on about 20 stitches and knit about 8 rows. Look and see how many stitches you knit in your inch(2.5cm) Average size adult head is about 21-24”(53.3-61cm) Your finished hat should be about 14”(36cm) in circumference when it is flat on a table and about 24”(61cm) when stretched out. So if you have knit 6 stitches to your 1”(2.5cm) then you can figure out how many stitches to cast on to get the right size. As I mentioned above your finished hat should be about 14”(36cm). So 14”x 6 stitches= 84 stitches to cast on. Just make sure your final number is a multiple of 4. Add or minus a cast on stitch to make it work. Hope that makes sense. Hi Patti l hope you are well. I need help with some yarn l have 2 balls of size 4 wool if l knit them together would it give me a bigger size wool? Thanks so much you are a wealth of information.
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts2 жыл бұрын
I think the size 4 will be smaller than the bulky 5 yarn that I used. But depending on where you live a size 4 yarn can have different weights. You should do up a little sample gauge than you will know how many stitches to cast on so you are happy with your final size. 14” circumference is an average size for ladies hat. It is best to knit a little sample to test your gauge. Cast on about 16 stitches and knit about 8 rows. Measure how many stitches you knit per inch. Example: Let’s say you knit 6 stitches per inch and you want your hat to be 14” in total circumference. Then just multiply 6x14 which equals 84. So you will cast on 84 stitches. Hope that helps.
@randie54368 ай бұрын
Just found your instructions for the hat. Very informative. Quick question. Instead of using a bobby pin when you began your decreasing, could I use a stitch marker at the beginning of the hat, at the first row to help me know when I am beginning a new row? I feel like that might be easier for me. Placing a stitch marker right after joining in the round or right before you start joining in the round. Does that work? Thanks.
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts8 ай бұрын
Yes of course. Any marker will do.
@randie54368 ай бұрын

It's very tight when I'm decreasing. I would appreciate any suggestions wiithout using DPNs or Magic Loop.
@CraftyPattiArtsCraftsАй бұрын
If it’s really tight when decreasing then you need to loosen up on your tension so it is a bit looser and easier for decreasing.

Hi Debra. I published another video for hats for the whole family. Here’s the link if you want to have a look. I created a chart for several different sizes. Hope that helps. Here’s the Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYe3loV3aaykaZY. Knitted chart is at time stamp 2:40

how can I print these directions? thank you soooooo much. You make it look easy. /Thank you!
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts3 жыл бұрын
There is a way but there are a few steps. You have to copy the URL into google search and copy from there. I have given you the steps below. 1. Search for my KZbin video on KZbin 2. Just below the video click on share, then click on copy link 3. Go to google or your browser of choice 4. Click in the search field and copy the URL link from my video 5. My video should come up 6. Click on my video 7. Look for the tiny black arrow to the right and below the video. Click on the arrow and it will bring up the description box. Or click on show more 8. Select the text or pattern you want to copy and scroll down till all is selected 9. Click copy 10. Go into a word doc and paste the text or pattern into the document 11. Now you can print your document If that is too difficult for you than send me your email address to craftypatti60@gmail.com and I will send you the pattern.

Hi, can this be made in different sizes by adding or subtracting the number of stitches? 😉
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts Жыл бұрын
Yes you can make this hat different sizes. I actually did another video on hats for the whole family. That should help you. Here’s the link: HOW TO - KNIT HATS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY - Matching Mom & Baby, Dad & Child - Patterns included kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYe3loV3aaykaZY

Hope make this but my wool had so many knots in it, now have go buy another ball, would short tip interchangeable be ideal rather then standard length needle, looking at getting size 6, and get the wire separately , x
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts3 жыл бұрын
I love knitting in the round as I don’t have to sew up a seam later. Short tip interchangeable needles are great. Wish I has some. Size 6mm is perfect.

Great video. I followed, but my bottom of the beanie is curling upwards. Any tips?
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts2 жыл бұрын
Hmm. Interesting. Mine do not curl up on the bottom. That’s why I like the ribbed hats. Purl 2, Knit 2. It should prevent curling on the bottom.

this is great! would I be able to do this with thinner yarn? what would I have to change if I did?
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts2 жыл бұрын
Yes you can use thinner yarn but a few things to work out. Look on the yarn label to see what size needles are recommended. You will also have to work out how many stitches to cast on. You should knit a little sample to test your gauge. Cast on about 14 stitches and knit about 6 rows. count how many stitches you knit in 1 inch. You will want your hat to be about 14” all the way around. It will be larger when it stretches on your head. Example: If you knit 8 stitches per inch than times the 8 stitches by the 14” you need for your hat. So 14x8=112 stitches to cast on. You will have to modify the decrease rows for the top of the hat. Hope that makes sense. Enjoy knitting your hat Patti
@aureliaharrison68332 жыл бұрын
@@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts thank you so much, this was helpful! I'm casting on 76 stitches, how would I go about modifying the decrease?
@CraftyPattiArtsCrafts2 жыл бұрын
Try this. Decrease Round 1: *K2 tog., P2* Repeat to end of round. Round 2 *K1, P2* repeat to end of round Repeat these two rows until you have 48 stitches then continue with the rest of my decrease instructions to finish the top of hat.

Not sure what you mean by a single cast on. There are different methods of casting on. choose the one that works for you and cast on the same amount of stitches.

Hi Dee. I published a video awhile back for hats for the whole family. You will find one for baby and child’s size and for the toddler you can just cast on less stitches. Here’s the link to that video. HOW TO - KNIT HATS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY - Matching Mom & Baby, Dad & Child - Patterns included kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYe3loV3aaykaZY
