I first heard this song when it was featured in an episode of “Six Feet Under” over 20 years ago. It took my breath away then and it still does today.

why do these garbage cable/streaming shows steal the best songs and ruin them. the non-stop orchestral strings clog up the song, needs those quiet spaces to breathe.

Same here. Such a beautiful, moving use of the song. It was just perfect to accompany the visual montage at the end of that episode.

@@rickdeckard1075 It makes me sad that you lump 6ftunder into any group. It is an experience unique unto itself. Six Feet Under is something else. Its writing is genius. The way the story is told is incomparable in my opinion. I first watched Season 1 when it aired on Channel 4 in the UK in 2001. I was 16 years old, but I loved it. It drew me in, but that's where it stopped for me. I didn't watch the rest of the show until 2020. Life kind of got in the way after Season 1 and I never got around to finishing the series. Then the Lockdown for COVID-19 occured, so it was the perfect time to finally get around to watching it all. Six Feet Under is a show like no other. I really thought that I had seen some of the best shows on TV; that nothing could ever be so good that it could be number one and never be topped (this is largely in part to the series finale), but this show has done just that. After watching the finale, it was everything it needed to be. Each Season has something different; something that makes you think. The fact that it focuses on such a mortifying and macabre subject matter makes it even more relatable. The characters and the actors were perfect. Peter Krause is Nate, Michael C. Hall is David; every character was portrayed perfectly. Each characters story arc was penned to perfection. You honestly couldn't ask for more out of them. A lot of the time, I'll be left with so many questions after finishing a TV show. Finding plot holes or things that I felt didn't make sense and therefore left me feeling frustrated. Six Feet Under does a brilliant job of telling a story where you don't feel that way at all. Instead of frustration, I was left with joy, heartache, sadness, happiness... every possible emotion. I could write about this show for hours. I could write so much, but it still wouldn't do it justice. What I can and will say say is that I cannot stress this enough, this show is worth every second of your viewing. You will laugh, you will cry (well, I did anyway) and you will (hopefully) understand and appreciate the perfection that is Six Feet Under. Storytelling at its absolute best.

"Let's Go Out Tonight" There are numerous arrangements and cover versions, but this Craig Armstrong Ver. is the best. It is the perfect solitary catharsis.

Where the cars go by All the day and night Why don't you say What's so wrong tonight? Pray for me Praying for the light Baby, baby Let's go out tonight Where the lights all shine Like I knew they would Be mine all mine Baby, I'll be good Pray for me Praying for the light Baby, baby Let's go out tonight I know a place, Where everything's alright Alright Let's go out tonight Where the cars go by All the day and night Why don't you say What's so wrong tonight I pray for love, Coming..

I first heard this song somewhere around 2006 when it came on my friend's car speakers, playing from his connected mp3 player. The sky looked like pink graffiti on blue glass as the sun was setting and my friend had picked me up to drive us to the wedding of some friends of ours, so we were dressed to the nines. I don't remember if my car was in the shop or if he'd just picked me up so we could talk and spend time together on the way to the wedding, but I immediately asked my friend what the song was when it came on, and I'm now forever grateful for his impeccable taste in music, as this is still my very favorite vocal song to this day. I've never heard another song so stunning or that hits so deeply, and while I've since heard the original, this arrangement by Craig Armstrong puts the polish on the diamond for me and is the version I hold dearest to my heart. It wasn't a memorable night especially for the wedding. I've never been big on weddings. It was just another wedding and just me there to show support to my friends, though it was a sweet time with a short ceremony and a fun reception full of dancing and good times shared with people who mattered to me. What made the night most memorable was the exact moment I heard this song, the colors of the sky, and the presence of my friend and his encouraging voice, which are all forever burned like a movie scene into my memory. I haven't had a mutual friend group that I felt I truly belonged in and was valued by since those times, and they will always be a very special time to me for that reason. Whenever this song comes on, I'm taken back there, and to many late nights alone in my car in the years that followed, where I'd listen to this song for catharsis when experiencing profound periods of loneliness. It still hits the spot, where that's concerned.

I remember hear it on french radio ("C'est Lenoir") and running the day after to buy the album. I remember falling in love with a girl, inviting her for dinner and saving just one dance on this special song for her. I wish I could listen this song the day I die.

I heard this song for the first time through the heartbreaking masterpiece movie Laurence Anyways. After listening to the original version by The Blue Nile I prefer this reworked version. It was written by The Blue Nile's Paul Buchanan and is interpreted by Craig Armstrong.
