But you have to remember that this was from a couple of decades ago. It was a time before everyone was wet blankets who were afraid of everything. In the 90s, I would watch 'Are you afraid of the dark' 'Goosebumps' 'X-Files' etc with my school friends, and we'd never be scared. Mostly interested. I expect now, in modern times, many adults are too scared/creeped out by the x-files.
