He’s my favorite late night host of all time for one simple reason: He never allowed himself to stop being an actual comedian. He refused to fully conform to the format that can suck out the creative juice that makes a comic funny and unique. He made the show entirely his own and that’s why its had such an enduring legacy. Conan is the only other one that comes close imo.

Practically every talk show host would ask set up questions that the guests were aware of and get the chance to tell their story. Letterman, Leno and Conan all had to do this. But with Craig it just seems like a natural conversation where he would ask anything and the guests loved it

I liked Craig immediately, the way one old punk rock refugee and recovered individual knows another on sight. I miss Craig's LLS every day. I've watched late night shows ever since I was a kid, grew up with Letterman and Leno then Conan... but Craig was just on another level. He was a phenomenal improvisor and it was like magic how he could turn nothing into comedy gold, and he always knew when it was time to move on and try new characters or bits. He was always 100% genuine and that really shown through with his interactions with his guests, and I loved how he built up a roster of "regulars" that he got along with so well that the interviews just felt like old friends chatting it up. There are so many moments from that show that are indelibly etched into my brain. Late night is dying now because it's either become completely politicized (Colbert, Meyers), fake/hokey (Fallon), and/or plain unfunny (Kimmell... well, most all of them now). I understood Craig wanting to move on and do something else with the rest of his life, but we really need him back.
@Juide809 ай бұрын
I absolutely agree with everything you said that were opinions. The current guys' jokes are just so depressingly unfunny that they almost make me cry and they're basically never funny. I think couple good examples of Craig's best regulars are Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis. There are many others of course and I remember when one guest once said his show is often referred to as "the fun one" and it's very easy to understand why that is so. He's so different from others that I've never seen anything like it. He's clearly naturally and genuinely a very curious man and that's a big part of what makes it fun for his guests because he has different questions to start with and he listens and then reacts to the answers so most of the time he really needs only one question to open the conversation and after that he can just take it anywhere he wants and I would love it more than anything if I was the one he'd be talking to.

Craig Ferguson was the unparalleled legend of late-night television. In other talk shows, it often felt like the host was the only one laughing, with the audience either silent or supplemented by a laugh track. But with Craig, genuine laughter filled the studio, resonating with everyone present. His charisma and wit created an atmosphere where everyone, not just the host, was genuinely entertained. He is dearly missed.

the opening of this epitomizes why he was the best. Not late night, but late late night. He understood the difference even more than Conan did, that by this time anyone still watching is a little batty and his show would move you into a different reality.

A second in, and the video has made its point perfectly. (How awesome to see new Craig content still being uploaded!)

@@wanabiyu8380 It shows ❤️ Loved also the inclusion of the lovely live singing (The Paris episodes were some of peak Craig wholesomeness).

How did I never know Craig was an amazing singer?
@wanabiyu8380 Жыл бұрын
Bc he never sang that often on the show, although he sang (and wrote and played the drums) for the theme song of the show :)
