Protip: compliment someone on something they make a choice about (hair style, clothing, etc etc), as opposed to something innate over which their short term choices don't have an impact (i.e. you have beautiful eyes/other personal feature). It's innate that people appreciate compliments on actions or choices they make, as opposed to things of their nature. Also, when someone compliments you, never ever brush it off, turn it back, etc. Just look them in the eye and say "thank you". Giving a compliment is risky, too.
