circa 1982
released 2011
For years this was only available to many on CDR where it was credited more or less as a Ron Hardy track. It turned out to be a track done by Craig Loftis back in 1982 that was given to Ron Hardy to play, I assume from reel to reel or cassette. An amazingly futuristic track when you consider this was from 1982!
Release details → www.discogs.com...
Craig Loftis reversioned this track in 2013 under his alias Grand High Priest. It should be available on traxsource titled 'Yes It's Right'.

Thanks craig for confirming. It seems at least Rush Hour got it right when they included this on their 'Chicago Dance Tracks' comp a couple of years ago. I'll be sure to update the comments section above with the correct date and info on the recent reversioning from 2013. Thanks again.

I grew up in chitcago and djd with Ron, Frankie, Farley,Pharos,Lil Louis,etc...was the First person to rent the Muzikbox....the term House Music comes from the fact that Frankie was spinning disco, RnB and electro from Europe,while BMX was just playing electro, so people referred to the Older and gay music as House Music....then a couple people were fortunate to get their hands on equipment and make music at home😎

I remember listening to a DJ play this at the Warehouse back in the day..late 90s. House has been around a LONG time, with music which has been "borrowed" and revamped..still a very relevant genre. @Craig, thank so much for the memories and for an amazing ORIGINAL track. As a songwriter, one of my goals is to write/compose an original piece. #HouseNation

1985? Really? This was way ahead it's time then! It's a pity there were so many good track lost in this era. Let's hope they'll all be recovered some time.

@btwentwo No problem at all, thanks for the thanks. Finally this one is getting the credit it deserves. For years we could only find it on that CDR of Ron Hardy edits that was floating around a few years back. I never knew this was Craig Loftis until a couple of years ago. Great to finally have a half decent vinyl pressing of it.

Sorry for the late reply but as always your thanks is appreciated. Hopefully I'll have some more good stuff up early next year as there are rumors of some unreleased tracks finally coming out. We'll just have to wait and see.

Yes I agree. A lot of great tracks that never got a proper release until more recent years. Rush Hour records should be releasing the next installment in their "The Muzic Box - A Portrait Of The Party At The Dawn Of House" series soon? I've got the first 12" (both sides) posted on my channel.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, you and me both. There's a lot of stuff being credited to Ron Hardy the last few years but as an artist he just had that one track, 'Sensation', as far as I know. His DJing and editing was off the hook but studio time was more or less non existent.

One of the best Djs still! Producing is not everything for a great DJ. Selecting & mixing and pleasing so many clubbers is vital. Oh, along with presenting & promoting to attract clubbers & dance music to grow (however, maintaining a strong underground status for which remains fairly prevalent). The likes of Pete Tong, Rampling, and John Peel can be given as much credit as the likes of Larry Levan, Ron Hardy, and Oakenfold & Frankie (who have elements of production & DJing) can be regarded as great too. There are some brilliant producers who are not heavy on actual DJing. They also deserve to be in the HofF but not as DJs. But, these DJs are examples of what makes them great.

@pazhonda1821 7 жыл бұрын
Natgirrl You serious? ELECTRO got it's roots in the late late 70s early 80s. IF anything, they came out at the same time. This song is ELECTRO, sorry. ELECTRO did NOT come from Chicago House, I'm willing to bet my life on THAT.
@natgirrl672

Perhaps we are dealing with semantics. Just what do you mean by Electro?
@natgirrl672
@natgirrl672 7 жыл бұрын
Also, being from Chicago and coming of age as this form of music came about, I can assure you that this is pure early Chicago House. We did not call it "Electro".
@pazhonda1821
@pazhonda1821 7 жыл бұрын
Natgirrl NO, I'm a veteran. Early stuff like this was just the HOT music of the time. I don't really think you can call it house. The beat does NOT stay the same the whole time. The variation feature on the 808 made this beat change possible. I'm sure Craig was just trying to make a JAM and did NOT care what people called it later. Looking back, this song is NOT confined to 1 genre. That is what makes it legendary. However, IF you did have to put it into a genre, it does NOT fit into house. Yes I know "house DJs" played this but it does NOT fit the mold of house tracks that came after IT. This fits more closely to the ELECTRO of the time period.

What is the point commenting if you are 16 years old. "Are you the person who invented house? Are you the house music messiah?" 😜😜😆 You would have to be 50 years old plus to know what the dance music environment was like in the early 80s pre house. There is no one record that was the first ever house record. Music evolves. It's not like inventing a microwave oven. Whether it's drum and bass, rock n roll, jazz, blues, it has always been something which has evolved.

There are plenty of progressive dance tracks from the past which appeared to be ahead of their time. Gino Soccio /Remember which also came out in 82 and also... I could name drop but I do not want to give info to those types who do not respect the past. "TELL ME, TELL ME SO THAT I CAN SAMPLE IT." Those types deserve to remain ignorant

Was this really recorded in 1982? If so, could it be the very first house track ever? This shit kicks ass, anyway. And the title says "Power Plant"... does that mean Knuckles owned a copy as well?
@houzbizness303
@houzbizness303 9 жыл бұрын
+Jo Deschamps Thanks for the comment. The Power Plant opened it's doors in 1982 but it's also possible this was named later on. There were tracks around before Jesse Saunders' 'On And On' that never made it to vinyl. Listening to this I'd say it's possible it was created in 1982. One hell of a track for sure!
