I keep coming back to this video, it cured so many swing faults, the release drill straightened my left arm through impact with the result that I am hitting the ball 30 yds further with a draw. I played 10 shots under my 27 handicap by simply keeping my drive on the fairway and closer to the green. Awesome!!! Well done for the evidenced base position to position drills I am now on the journey to lower handicap golf.

Found this channel about 2 weeks ago. Simply the best informative channel there is, truly. Currently helping me with a complete swing makeover. I just took up golf again (didn't realize how much I've missed it) after almost 20 years, and realized that my swing had become an "old man" swing. Which basically made my backswing look like I was about to chip and I had a very much amateur-ish look as I have very little lag and my arms and hips are basically pointing in the same direction during the entire swing. I was actually able to hit the ball consistently and somewhat reliantly but I was never able to hit it very far. So I decided I wanted a better looking swing and I want the potential of hitting it far. So I started watching this channel and applying as much as I could, while also stretching a bit. I didn't matter to me that I would propably have to endure a short period of not hitting the ball, I went from hitting the ball somewhat consistetly to not hitting it at all since I basically completely threw my old swing away and started working on the new one. I've kept at it and I'm just now (probably 500 balls later) starting to hit the balls consistently again. I actually almost managed to hit the green on a par 4 yesterday, only 273 yards but still. Honestly it almost felt like a dream to be able to hit a graceful nice draw with some length, I've always envied people who do that. My swing is now looking more and more like an actual graceful swing and I can hit farther than before with (what I feel like) is much less effort due to proper lag and usage of my wrists, also getting the maximized club speed at the actual impact. Got a few more things I want/need to work into my swing and after that, just lots of practice shots. So I really want to enhance the point they're trying to make that it's a shame people settle with a swing where they can play somewhat stable as long as they aim a little left and it'll slice right into the fairway. Going through 500 balls where I barely even hit it was hard and I wanted to just go back and hit it normally, but I'm so happy I'm keeping at it and I truly hope more people will be able to do this now that we have channels like this. P.S. if you're practicing your iron shots, stay away from mats. Might be different for you but honestly, they completely ruin the feedback you're supposed to get from practice.

This is an excellent description of proper release. I think most teaching pros do not understand this concept. Craig, thank you for this. If I might suggest something constructive here would be to add a little more of comparison/contrast with proper release versus the flip.

I spent a year trying to HOLD lag and this misguided idea that it was giving me more power. But this makes sense. Looking at the physics of it, it's almost an optical illusion - when you try to flip the wrist from the top, it really drives your trail arm to the ball. I

I would have said , neither Trevino nor Palmer would have their hands in this position at P8 (nor me, not that i think I am good). But on checking some old slow motion videos, they do it exactly as you explained, and so does everyone else, including me. My trail wrist does go into extension in my finish, but thats well after P8 but by then it doesnt matter. I still like the drill, cant hurt to reinforce the action. I had been a long time flipper, but I have worked that out of my system, most of the time I hope :) Thanks for sharing this one.

No question this release adds speed to the swing. At 58 I'm still capable of bombing it out there past 275 yards as a result. I haven't hit it this far since I was in my 40s. I need to refine it as I get over draws, and the occasional snap hook with the driver. The instruction on release and shaft lean has been very insightful and beneficial to my game.

@@CraigHansonGolf, maybe pros who have spent countless hours hitting balls can draw and fade the ball at will by simply doing what you say in the last part of your video, but for the great majority of us amateurs, that requires an incredible sense of timing. Since draws and fades are the result of the angle of the clubface relative to the swing path, I think most amateurs would be better off simply presetting the face of the club open or closed at address by adjusting their grip and making a normal swing and aligning themselves left or right as appropriate.

Thank you craig, craig im sure you've check your own swing out, great transmission, great separation with your lower half, the key move if you ask me, help to shollow the club ,get you body moving towards the target, without that move you better have some pretty strong arms and wrist to gain power,, im ,trying my best craig lol thanks again always great content!!

Hey Kevin, nice to hear from you again. Yeah definitely the separation of the top half to the bottom is a huge thing. It’s the hands and wrists and the separation that’s the 2 things for amateurs. Nice to hear from you again 👍
