The Ridiculous Reason Why 90% of Golfers Can't Strike Their Irons

This is why you struggle to strike your irons pure and make solid contact 👇
1. Your sternum is not positioned correctly at address
2. Your forearms are not in line at set up - BIG ONE
3. Your posture is misaligned at set up
4. You don't transfer your weight naturally in the golf swing
5. and one cool little trick that makes your golf swing effortless
What's great is if you have any one of these faults in your golf swing they are really easy to fix and can make an instant impact on the quality of your ball striking not just with your irons but with your driver too.
For example if you want to hit your driver straight just getting the forearms aligned at address will be a real eye opener for you.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On KZbin and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

To be fair, Mike Malaska has used throwing a ball to try and train students to hit with shaft lean. Using the body to drive the swing is also a lot like Malaska and (believe it or not) is reminiscent of Paul Wilson, although he emphasizes the hips rather than rib cage. This is not to diminish at all what Danny is doing in this video; really helpful and, to top it all off, free.

Yes! Hit the ball FORWARD. Most golfers definitely imagine the wrong intention. They’re either trying to hit DOWN AT the ball, which makes you too steep, and often over-the-top. Or…. They’re trying to hit the ball UP, which makes you bottom out behind the ball, making you hit it fat, or catching it on the upswing, and skulling it. No matter what club you have in your hands, set up to the ball and imagine that you’re trying to drive it low, and forward towards the target. The loft on the club will provide the up, even though you’re trying to drive it low. Also, with all your intent focused on hitting it FORWARD, you’ll naturally end up with your weight on your left side, and you’ll feel like you’re putting “pressure” into the back of the ball. This creates a very compressed, and powerful strike, and gets you through the ball, with a nice follow through. I’m telling you people, trying to hit the ball FORWARD will change your game forever. Great video, as always, Danny!

@@davewanamaker3690 Thanks, bro. Even though my intent is to drive it low, and forward, I have a slightly higher than average ball flight. Hitting the ball low, and forward is just a GREAT swing thought for strike, and getting through it. Hope it helps ya…

This is by far the best explanation of three easy steps for ball striking. Especially the focal point on the downswing. I was always looking at the ball or slightly in front of it. You are 100% correct with the bad intentions this does. I appreciate you explaining how to correct this bad habit! Thank you sir🙌🏽

I just love that he keeps his lessons simple and focuses on fundamentals. He is not trying to recreate some complex PGA players swing that took them 15+ years to build like other KZbinrs do. He gets us as average golfers are just trying to make consistent contact and have fun playing the game.

My wife is just taking up the game (she must not have enough aggravation in her life, LOL) so this is a must watch for her as she has not grasped the concept of rotating her rib cage yet. High handicap golfer (hcp 45) here. Watched this video during breakfest today. Tee time for 9 holes was 11:50 am. Though I give it a try at the range and what should I say: it worked perfectly! Without effort my irons went as far as always but with less effort. If I added the down throw motion you describe distance increased but consistency decreased as well. So have to work on that! But amazing lesson. Thank you Danny for sharing this. Extremly helpful. On the course I had my second best round ever using the effort less swing. What an easter present. Great content 🎉

Thanks Danny, the forward momentum of the body - focusing on directing the ball forward towards target as opposed to trying so hard to strike the ball that's in front of you. This concept really helped me start getting the weight forward with continued rotation through the swing, with the right forward-shaffling. So much that it dramatically changed my results. I recommend any newer golfers struggling with ball striking to really focus on this aspect.

Thank you for the videos you produce. For me I would add the "rhythm" of the forward press/then backswing significantly helps my timing, weight transfer, and contact. I struggle with wanting to add force to my downswing, thinking that equates to distance, for me it does NOT. It is a shame that most instructors want to separate takeaway/backswing from the downswing as if they were two very different animals. If I think about a pendulum or a swing on a swing set, there is no resetting of anything during the transition from top to bottom - in either direction - It is just a fluid motion. If I setup correctly and just let it happen, it is amazing what occurs when I let the club do the work. Again great video and thanks for the help .... C.

Danny again another fantastic video. I have known for some time that my problem was focusing on hitting the "BALL" and this was ruining my game. I could not get this out of my head. Some swings I would even stop as soon as I hit the ball. Just last week I figured out a way to work past this by making about 100 full swings with no ball and then working the ball back in slowly. So I am goingnto use this method to keep working on my "target". Thanks again Coach you are the Best on YT.

I’ve shot my two best rounds ever the last couple times out. 86&88 but my swing felt off. Now my swing is feeling much more effortless, the last few days. Finally have some nice weather to get to the range and hopefully a round of golf. Thanks for simplifying the swing for someone who has only taken golf seriously the past year!

@@DanielMaude I just washed to update since you replied. Was finally able to get out to the range and practice… MAN after about 10 swings I hit one dead straight and caught the feel, I was consistently hitting the ball 65 - 70yards farther (275-285 yards) when I miss hit rarely am I slicing I will typically send it left. Even when I do slice instead of a 50+ yard slice it’s maybe 10-15 yards. Keep doing what you’re doing, I’ve started to enjoy the game again!

This is a perfect explanation of why we have flicky wrists at impact and cannot strike the ball consistently. We let the ball target override the target where we want the ball to end up. I can't wait to work with this for improving my inconsistencies. Thanks Danny...

My problem was not hinging my wrists during the takeaway. This then allowed me to release the hinge during the swing, gaining additional speed as a result. Darren at Breadsall is a great instructor.

Morning, Dan - Great lesson. I had lesson last week, mainly trying to stay centred with my head in imaginary circle, which makes it easier to get left shoulder under chin and maintain spine angle. But, my arms were slightly bent at set up so needed to extend arms to get me in better posture, with butt of club pointing more at belt line - was nearer belly button. Next range session should be interesting. All the best, Ken 😁👍

Your last piece of advice is so interesting Danny. Yesterday I kept telling myself to turn towards the target and it helped a lot. I find that I naturally turn toward the target with a 9 iron chip shot from about 10 to 30 yards, but like you say, I tend to focus more on the ball than the target as the clubs and distance start getting longer, which significantly hampers my “swing.” Such great advice, as always!

As usual all great information and really practical to apply. I am sure you have probably covered this but how do you also ensure at the same time that you hit the ball with the middle of the club head rather than the toe or heel. Is there a drill/technique for that or is it just implicit in doing all the things described in your tips here.

Yes it looks so natural. Always when I play I think about your drills. So i managed three pars and a birdie at saturady on the 9 hole cours in Pollence. Thanks for the wonderful explanations. Putting could be a theme too.

Absolutely fantastic video! As someone who's struggled with consistency in my golf swings, the tips and advice shared here were incredibly helpful. The insights on naturally creating a downward attack angle and maintaining an effortless swing were particularly enlightening. The simple trick of aligning my sternum directly over the ball was something I've never tried before, and I'm eager to incorporate these techniques into my next practice session. Thanks for sharing this valuable knowledge-I'm looking forward to seeing my improvement. Looking forward to more great content like this!
