Howe got lucky with results in the past but this year he has been dull, unable to make changes in matches and struggled in every match. Everyone has figured him and his tactics out and yet he makes no changes, he survives only based on the talent of the players. Mitchell has a history of talent acquisition and success at multiple stops (unlike Howe). He's paid to come in and solidify everything behind the scenes and make us a success long term. He is meant to come in and change things so we don't have to sell quality young players each year for PSR needs
@michaelmckie9164Ай бұрын
Multiple issues here; 1. Paul Mitchell for me appears (from interviews I’ve seen from him, not just reports) not very articulate or elegant with his words. His ‘not fit for purpose’ comments I assume were not on quality/ability of signings and more on data available but by being inexact he’s left it open to interpretation. This doesn’t mean he isn’t a top class SD. 2. Darren Eales ultimately should be the one responsible for unifying his team. He should have had a sit down NUFC conversation with both Eddie & Paul to showcase unity. It’s poor leadership from Eales that he seemingly is not ensuring all is smooth between his leaders pre press conference today. The fact they’ve not spoken is on Eales. 3. Eddie is not Mitchell’s man. Paul Mitchell seems to be abrasive and my way or the highway, he wants to stamp his authority and so Eddie will either be deferential or end up leaving or Mitchell will (like Spurs) unless Eales grips the situation. If either of these things happen it’s on Eales and his role should be questioned.
@TheJDUBMediaАй бұрын
@@michaelmckie9164 great observations- Very few fans seem to want to mention Howes press conference in Germany, two days into Mitchell arriving- where Howe was already on the defensive and 'surprised' he wasn't consulted on the appointment. My guess is both Eales and PIF felt Howe was given too much control by Staveley and they didn't like certain results ie fitness of players and recruitment. It's poor leadership by Eales, but Howe is still throwing out red meat to the journalists at Friday's press conference. Howe will lie or say nothing when he wants to. So I have to assume he is trying to undermine Mitchell or cover his back. One thing is certain- he's under a lot more scrutiny and pressure since the changes.

@@TheJDUBMedia yeah can’t argue, interesting for me was the praise Eddie gave James Bunce. Bunce is Mitchell’s man and is clearly a 1st class operator. Eddie is losing power but he would never have the power he has had at any top club, my hope is he appreciates that also.

Everything you say is absolutely correct. Alarm bells started ringing for me as soon as I saw Paul Mitchell’s first interview with NUFC tv over the summer. He uses a concerning amount of management jargon; in my experience a clear tell that someone doesn’t really know what they’re doing. Based on that very brief video I sensed he was a little prickly and insecure, and let’s be honest: everything since has vindicated that judgment. The interview last week was disastrous. Not only the contents of his message, but the fact he appeared to have absolutely no control over that message, no sense of how divisive his words would be when written up. And to distance himself publicly from the transfer debacle… terrible thing to say publicly even if true (which, anpprently, it isn’t!). The contrast with Eddie, who talks with such precision, couldn’t be more stark. I am worried! The one point in his favour is that whatever was happening before, even if ‘not fit for purpose’ is an exaggeration, must havr been a little bit dysfunctional or ashworth wouldn’t have left. Still, Mitchell shouldn’t be broadcasting that to media merely to salvage his own ego…

I dont think thats the point that Mitchell is making. The signings have been great - but we over spent on the FFP rules by doing so and had no selling strategy whatsoever - cant get any money for anyone, no planning and had to offload Minteh and Anderson in the final 24 hours just to avoid a points deduction. We have sold no-one else in the last 3 years of any value or consequence except ASM for a knock down price to a Saudi club. That's a very poor strategy. Going forwards he is saying we need a strategy that is fit for purpose - ie we can compete for champions league but manage within FFP. No evidence that we have been able to reconcile that easily under Ashworth and PIF.

Very balanced piece, Craig : as you say the people shooting the messenger have the wrong target. Mitchell didn’t seem to realise that when you are attacking strategy and results in the last three years, you are directly attacking PIF, who have had majority Board representation throughout and every major decision has had to be authorised in Riyadh. I’m also not sure what Mitchell has done to be so arrogant. He’s had 5 clubs in 18 years and the only thing in his trophy cabinet is a Division Two winner’s medal with MKDons who were relegated the next season ! We even did better than that under Ashley !

There isn't a mess though is there? Eddie was in good form in the Presser, had a laugh. Only the you guys in the press are peddling this nonsense that it's there is a rift. Stop it. We all watched the press conference there is no issues.

@ollievince6272Ай бұрын
Oh my god you cannot sit there and say there isn’t an issue, its glaringly obvious that there is based on Mitchell’s interview and Howe’s answers about it today, it might not be as big of an issue as some are making out but there is 100% a disagreement between the two of them.

100% correct. Eddie even came across quite jovial. Rehashing old bollocks about a potential rift is not helpful to anyone and actually just spreads negativity. Do I think there’s a rift now? No…I think they’re all collectively moving forward and I get a strong sense from Eddie that he really just wants to talk about the football ahead which is the right thing to do
@beepmac275Ай бұрын
Yeah …No way Mitchell intended to cause anything like the reaction His interview received, and he’s certainly not foolish enough to criticise the recruitment…I’ve been in plenty of working relationships that got off on the wrong foot but then became great …Eddie seems happy enough, methinks it’s time to ease off and concentrate on the football.

A good video Craig and your doing right by addressing the elephant in the room. The fans who are saying that it’s negative are just desperate for nufc to be all pulling in the same direction but it is your job to do the good the bad and the ugly for NUFC. 1-1 is likely for Wolves but I’m going an away win 1-2. Eddie is our biggest asset. We have some elite players and I think we bought extremely well up until the last 2 windows PSR the issue.

If we find ourselves in a situation where Eales has forced Amanda & Mehrdad out, and Mitchell has forced Eddie out, then the whole feeling towards the club is going to get toxic again like the Ashley days. The only saving grace this time would be that we’re talking about two blokes who can be sacked. It’s not Ashley who we can’t get rid of because he’s the owner. PIF can sack them and we may need PIF to step up and take action like that!

@andrewferry52Ай бұрын
I think you have this wrong Craig. I think when Paul Mitchell stated not fit for purpose, I don’t believe he was criticizing the signings but more so the players who weren’t sold. Hence why we were left scrambling around in June trying to sell players in order to balance the books. To loose Anderson and Minteh, yet retain almiron is a clear example of not fit for purpose.

I don’t buy the Sporting Director hype. Over half of PL clubs have changed person in that position since start of 2023. Almost three quarters currently in PL employed since 2021. Suggests a lot of churn in what we’re told is a long term and strategic role. Although, I don’t recall any of those causing as much stir in their first months as Paul Mitchell at NUFC!
@johnenglish929Ай бұрын
@@TheCoralMompass Mitchell said judge me after five years, but he’s never been in any job for anything like that long and - for whatever reason - my guess is that will be the case at the Toon.

Craig. Insightful as ever. However, I’m fed up of journos washing the dirty linen in public. We have already lost one Sporting Director. I’m sure if the new one has been a bit of a knob he will have been told by Eales/Eddie about his shortcomings. As you say hopefully journos can draw a line under the matter and move forward and talk about players and superb on field performances, something lacking so far.

@@Cory-lh3yp all I want is success- I don't care who brings it. Clearly the rules have changed since PIF bought the club and they've developed a new strategy for long term success. It is indefensible how Mitchell has acted in his first few weeks, his actions have created disharmony where there was none. Reporting the truth is just that the truth and Eales is out of his depth and PIF’s ambitions have changed, they don’t make mistakes so if we did not sign a first 11 player in the summer, it is because they did not want to.
