I always notice riders who have amber lights in the daytime stand out from riders that don't. I have just my hi beam headlamp set to strobe during the day ( and I don't leave it on all the time). Co-Light should be proud of the video you produced.

Amber is illegal where I live. We can have yellow or white. Amber is for indicators only.

I installed a set of colight MT series lights on the highway bar of my Victory Vegas after seeing yours and other reviews of other colights models. I wanted smaller footprint than the large square-ish ones like these, and those fit the bill for me. They do seem well made, and the cutoff line on the light output is really sharp. They come ready to go for a motorcycle, no other harness needed. I did have to get VERY creative with modifying a tube mount to mount the lights on the 1.25" highway bars. These clamps are far more chunky than i wanted but ordered two other P-clamp style clamps that wouldn't fit or work right, so I settled for them, and they are very stable at least. If you have 1" bars available to mount to, like an adventure bike often does, you'd be good with the mounts that come in the box with the lights. So, i do wish they had more/better mount options, bet seen to be really good lights for the money. Also, like you mine came from China, took a couple weeks but way faster than what the tracking initially said was going to be the delivery date. Since it's winter here in the mountains of Colorado, it wasn't that big a deal to me.

Would have been a better comparison if you used Denali D4 or S4 with a throw pattern similar to the LA5. D1s are more like spots. I have the S4s fender mounted on my sport tourer, the basic bundle with their standard motorcycle harness and wiretaps, for $250. Still, for someone that's looking into checking out the huge difference they can make, $130 is not a bad deal, especially when the standard switch on their harness is better than the Denali.

If Denali wants to send me those lights, I would be happy to do the comparison...listening Denali?

I might have to give a try. Been thinking of adding a set of light on my 22 KLR for Adv rides in the Backcountry and be more conspicuous on commute traffic.

I'm forever going back and forth on buying "quality" vs cheap and whether the extra is justified. For aux lights, it seems if the lights are bright and don't die early or cause any other issues like fires or making you take everything apart to get at the harness, good enough. That said, for mine I went with Ruby R5 and their weird yellow covers on a Black Friday Sale. I'm interested to see if there's any visibility difference this year.

Nice job on the review! I might give them a try!

Great review, are they just plug in and play system or do we need to cut wires and solder etc…
@LivingOffTheSlab8 ай бұрын
With the harness they are pretty much plug and play. You will have figure something for the trigger wire and horn.

Biggest issue with these and other cheap lights is they are not DOT Approved. These are only allowed for off road use and in some states they will not pass vehicle inspection and the rider can be ticketed for using these lights. Even the $600 Clear Waters are not DOT Approved, but the Denali Lights are DOT approved.
@LivingOffTheSlab9 ай бұрын
Do you know anyone that has been ticketed for yellow or white driving lights on a motorcycle?
@jameshuggins43009 ай бұрын
I don't know anyone who has gotten a ticket but the flashing feature will attract the attention of law enforcement.
@LivingOffTheSlab9 ай бұрын
@@jameshuggins4300 Yeah, it should be used sparingly.

In Virginia yellow are legal, blue and red are not legal. As for the DOT comment. VA has yearly state inspections and all lights that are burning while on public roads have to be DOT approved. You can have non DOT approved lights installed but they cannot be burning while on public roads. This, unfortunately is dependent on how thorough the inspector does their job. I have personally been failed due to my Skene rear lights. Most officers will overlook lighting as long as it is blinding oncoming traffic and do not confuse traffic. On my HD my driving lights are set up to toggle. I use this future in heavy traffic and it really helps. Since it is white lighting and the factory equipment (harness modified) I have never had any issue. @@LivingOffTheSlab

I had hooked up my aux lights to a modulator one would normally connect to the high-beam. I happened to be going to an advanced rider training day school and there was a mounted trooper there. He took one look and said "Nope". A modulating headlight is OK...not the separate driving lights.@@jameshuggins4300
@HootmonHarry9 ай бұрын
So, with the light being "broader" and less like a spotlight, will they be more blinding to oncoming traffic?
@LivingOffTheSlab9 ай бұрын
I guess that would depend on how you aim them.

Craig, I have a GT Pro, otherwise the same cycle. Did you give any thought to removing the stock driving lights and installing these in their place? I too, try to avoid night riding, but I look at those lights and think of how visible I would be in the rain! Still squeezin' at 68!

I did think about that, but have not looked into what it would take to make it work.

@@richardlee4438 Yes that is what they are made for, but you should do your own research. As I said, I did not test them by riding in the rain. Go to CoLights website and look at the switch and lights. You can also ask their customer service about it.

I don't have an Ezcan, but I would think you could. Either wire the co light harness to the Ezcan, or make your own harness as I did with my PDM60. Would have to play with it to see what is best

@@Vjekoslav-vf3hr here in the states the lights should be off when the high beam is on. I just use the switch with the lights to turn on and off manually. You might be able to tie into the high beam switch, but I would be careful with CANBUS system.
