Until the Fed clamps down even further I think we're going to see hysteria due to rampant inflation. You can't halfway rip the band-aid off. I've sold stuff at a lot of pawn shops through the years. It came in handy in a pinch. One time I was getting irritated at pawnshops and insurance companies at the same time. I was disabled on worker's compensation and the insurance company liked to forget to send me a check on time. Sometimes 2 weeks would pass and I would have to pawn things to get up the money to pay bills. Finally, and usually, after I complained forcefully, they would send the check. So then I would go to the pawn shop and get my items back. Of course, there is an interest charge. That is what was pissing me off. Because of the insurance company's failure, I was losing money, which was the interest on these small loans. Sure, it wasn't the pawn shop's fault. But after that cycle played out several times, you resent it anyway. I hope things get better for folks real soon.

I used a money belt like that when I was traveling off the beaten path in third world countries many years ago. That way if you get robbed or a policeman or official looks in your wallet before demanding a bribe they only get part of your money. I could roll up $100 bills in it so I alway had money to get out of whatever country I was in. In Mexico a police man pulled over my dad, took his wallet, counted the money, then gave it back to him then demanded the entire amount of maney in the wallet as a "fine".That is when I learned the importance of a belt like this when travelling. Also you don't have to worry so much about pick pockets anywhere you travel with one. Cash is king when traveling in a third world country, as is a bottle of Johnny Walker to give to an official LOL That got me on a flight that was supposedly full from a tiny island in the pacific once in Indonesia after giving a bottle of Johnny Walker to the manager of the one room airport. .

People come in thinking they are going to get top dollar for their items. Doesnt work that way with these type of shops. If you want top dollar, try to sell them yourself on Ebay or something. But then you would be playing the waiting game, plus Ebay takes a percentage of your profits.

@TrUmP AmErIcA Maybe and I have watched many of Peter's videos. But most people come in and try to haggle with Peter for five - Ten maybe more dollars than what Peter has to offer. Then the people stand there and stare for Ten minutes wondering why they dont get their prices. Pete is in that business to make money, that is the whole purpose of a resale business and yes he is going re-mark the items back up to premium pricings if he can get them. Nature of the business. So my comment is still true what I say. It is a hard thing to sell items on your own and get any decent money for them. i have done a little bit of it.

An item that people pay 20 bucks for ,can cost $8-10 to ship. that's 10 dollars profit minus 12.9% (of 20 bucks) so around around 7-8 dollars profit if you get the item FREE , paying 5 dollars to make $2-3 profit is not worth the time for me

I know pawn shops are in business to make money, but I've never seen one that is honest, yet. So I'm skeptical of the "I can't give that much I'm sorry" with the concerned apologetic look. I sold something that I paid $250 in total for, used once, a write on electronic tablet that had a keyboard, that I got $10 for, with those same words and that same concerned apologetic look. I needed the money, no matter how little, so I sold it. When I went back in 2 weeks later to buy it back, after my first paycheck came in from my new job, it was listed for $100. The same guy who bought it from me wouldn't budge from that $100. The same thing happened with an heirloom ring I had pawned. Different shop, would only give me $20 for a $1000 ring, same sad "sorry it's all we can do". I had to ashamedly ask my mom for money to get it back out of hock. She went down there the day before the payment was due with my ticket and they already had it displayed with an asking price of $750. I tried another supposedly reputable shop later one to sell some items for a move. This was all before the internet and social media really took off. I had about 10 different things all gently used, all worth over $100 each, that I thought ok $10 each should be about right. Nope. Got $25 for all of it. And again when I checked later, 2 of them were still there and both with prices of around $100 each. I would have gotten better money had I been able to do a yard sale. Pawn shops are a total rip off for the seller.
@Ep1cTV
@Ep1cTV 2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you’ve definitely had some bad experiences with some pawn shops. But I wanted to say that it’s not really the pawn shops lying or being dishonest when they say that because a pawn shop is built off of your resold items. If you had something worth 25$ and I only have 10$, I could be fair and offer 10$, but I’ll have zero cash to spend on anything else until I sell your item and will now be risking having no money for a random amount of time. So I could either offer 10$ and risk everything, or offer you 5$ and look like a cheap jerk. Obviously they have more than 10$ to give you, but they have to be able to give cash to hundreds of people over the course of a year selling stuff to recoup. And selling the item may be harder because their customer base is basically the same less fortunate people. Why would I buy your resold 100$ tablet from a pawn shop if I could afford a brand new 250$ one? I wouldn’t, and neither would most people, so the only people buying a pawn shop used tablet are people who had to. So yeah, those pawn shops were probably greedy when they offered you those low numbers for your items, but people only have the option to give random stuff to a pawn shop *because* they profit from buying it cheaply. A fair pawn shop is going to be super picky if they gotta give 40-50% on every item they buy and would only buy the guaranteed best quality stuff to resell.
