My family has a version of this dish. Many years ago, my cousin decided to be the one to make it. My mom gave her the recipe and my cousin thought she said to PEEL and chop the cranberries. 😁she spent a couple hours peeling the bag of cranberries. Needless to say we had a very pale salad and she had very sore fingers. But we have a funny memory that someone every year brings up . Happy Thanksgiving!

Roseanne, I have been fortunate to be able to find frozen cranberries year-round in our grocery stores when I need them. Nevertheless, I do buy fresh cranberries this time of year, vacuum seal them, and stick them in our freezer. It is nice to have them throughout the year. Very interesting. My mother-in-law gave me a similar recipe, years ago. You take a small can of crushed pineapple and mix it with a small pkg. of strawberry jello powder (or whatever flavour you like). Boil them together for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Let the mixture cool in a glass bowl. Stir in one container of cottage cheese and one container of cool whip. Let set in the fridge and enjoy!

I remember as a little child my mom making this cranberry salad every Thanksgiving, she still makes it to this day. (she is 90 yrs young). It looks just like the one she makes but her process is a little different and she adds chopped 1 cup walnuts to hers. That little bit of crunch just does something for it. Since I got married I've been making also, everyone who's had it loves it and asks for the recipe. I have bought extra bags of Cranberries while in season and put them in the freezer so I can make it anytime of the year. I have also used pecans instead of walnuts and it's just as tasty. With this being a very old recipe, I would expect that the 16 oz measurement for the cranberries is correct and also note that pineapple used to always be canned in heavy syrup. I am sure that accommodation may have already been made for this. However this is why it is better to have cups and package size specified in your recipe as well as things like how and ingredient is packed.

I have a KitchenAid food chopper that I bought off of QVC and it is amazing. This is so sweet, I make my mother's cranberry salad that she made all of her life. She got the recipe from my Aunt Dutch that made it. I was going through some recipes last night and found the post card that she sent my mother the recipe. I got tears in my eyes because my aunt actually sent the recipe on a postcard many years ago, I will have to look at the date. The recipe calls for fresh cranberries, 2 oranges that you grind together, I use the KA food chopper that Melissa found. You let sugar set in this mixture for a couple of hours, then you add celery, apple, crushed pineapple and nuts. You use Know unflavored gelatin, 2-1/2 of the envelope desolved in cold water then add hot water and put in a large bowl or smaller bowls. I freeze some for later to eat with other meals. It is really good. I use more gelatin to make it firmer. My mother had an old fashioned grinder that you put on the side of a counter but I use the food chopper. I even make my pie crust with this little chopper and I have another one for my cat's food. I have owned 3 of these and I love them. I have bought them all from QVC a great little work horse for the kitchen. I will have to try your recipe. I buy extra bags of fresh cranberries every year and freeze them for future use. Here in North Carolina, they are usually 2 for 5. I always say this little food chopper is the best thing I have bought from QVC LOL

I’m looking for an old cranberry salad recipe that our elder church ladies made. It sets up, in a 9x13 or larger pan, like jello. It has diced celery, cranberries and other things in it. It was cut into square’s and served as a salad with the creamed turkey, biscuit and mashed potatoes dinners they served a few times a year. It was also served with other church dinner’s they had. I’m 70 yrs old, so I know it’s an older recipe. No one wrote it down, they just knew how to make it. If you, or your viewer’s know this recipe, I would absolutely appreciate someone sharing it. Thank you 💕🙏🙏

Hello, my family has made a cranberry salad that has granny Smith apples, cranberries, pecans, cranberry jello, celery, and mandarian oranges. It sets up and is cut into squares is that the one you're looking for? It's an old recipe my Mamaw made it for the holidays.

I used to have an Oscar!! I wish so badly I still had it! My husband and I was just talking about it, and wondering what the heck happened to it. Neither one of us can remember. It works SO well, I don't know why Sunbeam wouldn't still make it! This recipe looks yummy!

Wow. So simple and looks really delicious. I love cranberry dishes. Off to Walmart I go to buy a few more bags of cranberries. I know I have 2 in the freezer but I’ve got about 6 recipes to try. This one will be for Thanksgiving. God bless you and Melissa. I just love you both. 🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤

I grind mine the night b4 and put 2 cups of sugar on them (refrigerate). Next day, add your whipped cream, red grapes (cut in half), mini marshmallows, and pecans. 😋 I have that exact same (vintage) food processor, lol. Thanks, Tom and Melissa! Love your videos ❤
