I think the nerve that is responsible for blinking is facial nerve not the oculomotor.Still, great video Dr. Gill

You are correct. I amended that in the next video The trigeminal nerve is the afferent pathway and the facial is the efferent - controlling or oculars oculi

Also, I think in Parkinsonism, the glabellar reflex is persistent instead of absent, which means the blinking persists even after multiple taps on the forehead.
@DrJamesGill4 жыл бұрын
That shouldn’t be the case You get the glabells tap continuation in newborns - Myerson’s sign But this is largely included for completeness, as it is not really used as diagnostically it is not very sensitive
@ttfun44214 жыл бұрын
@@DrJamesGill According To Talley's Clinical Examination, 7th ed, under parkinson's disease, "This sign is positive when the patient continues to blink as long as you tap. " However, I agree it is an obsolete test and variations may exist between textbooks.
@DrJamesGill4 жыл бұрын
Yes Myerson’s and the glabella tap are one and the same, merely that the Myerson’s is only seen in that age group This is the sort of technical stuff I like in medicine. I’m hoping for a BIG discussion when we get to vocal resonance 🤓

Any other aviation geek out there say “rotate!” after he said ‘V1’? 🤣
@DrJamesGill4 жыл бұрын
What does V1 mean in the aviation world?
@ShawnTheDriver4 жыл бұрын
Dr James Gill V Speeds are important speeds that are called out by the pilot monitoring (the one that doesn’t have direct control over the aircraft at the moment) during takeoff. Ironically they are also V1, V2 and V3. There are more but usually only these three are called out. V Speeds are specific to each aircraft and they change depending on how much weight the plane has on board, and what the conditions are like outside. V1 is the designated speed at which the plane can no longer abort takeoff; if anything happens after this point, say an engine catches fire. After the pilot monitoring calls out V1 during the takeoff roll, the plane still has to take off. This is because after reaching V1 there won’t be enough room left on the runway for the aircraft to be brought to a stop again because it’ll be going too fast. V2, or rotation speed, is the speed at which the aircraft can now lift off of the ground. But not many pilots say “V2” anymore, they just say “rotate.” At this point the pilot flying will pull back on the yoke and the plane will lift off. V3 is flaps retraction speed. The flaps of an aircraft are on the back of an aircraft’s wing, and the pilots extend them for takeoff because it makes the surface area of the wing larger so more air can gather under it and the plane will be able to take off at a lower speed. Once in the air and over a certain speed the flaps will start to act as air brakes (which is also their other function) which you don’t usually want to have on while flying, so V3 is the speed at which the pilot flying will call out “flaps” and the pilot monitoring will let the flaps up. Very long winded response, pardon me 🤣

Now THAT’S a clear explanation. I know very little about aviation, but followed all of that! Thanks 🙏
