Freeze the crank helps. If anyone needs part # for Genuine Husqvarna 61 thru 272 crankshaft fitting tool it is 502 50 30-04 . But fits the newer style fine thread crank only. Also - ( The 371/372 tool is 502 50 30-15 ) I bought mine from HL supply.

There are two different crankshafts for 61 to 272. The 10mm and 8mm flywheel nut different installer tools. The 8mm being the newest. The 10mm same as the266 and the older style but with fine threads on the clutch. The original 266 crank had coarse threads on the clutch but were limited.

Tin man, “Thank you “ I just finished my Husky 61 from the bottom end up. I appreciate your very helpful videos ! I never would have got the heat right for the bearings or been able to install the seals correctly. I really like the “ cone” trick on the oil pump seal. Anyway the saw runs, oils and makes power again. So, I wanted to “Thank you” for your help, you deserve it! Carry on ! Nick/ Vermont

Brother, I'm putting my facebook find 394xp together with this video playing in the background. How to heat the bearings, how to heat the case halves, and what to do when the crank is binding when it's back together. When you said "or you can grab you case splitter," I whipped mine out and put it on. Worked just like you said. BIG kudos from North Carolina!

Building anything is easy until something starts to go wrong. Being able to correct it on the fly is what sets apart the pros from the amateurs. Seeing the process when trouble occurs will be the lesson learned by many today. So easy to just not post that! You were cool under pressure today. Thanks so much for sharing.

Tinman, if you measure your side clearance on the crankshaft prior to tearing it down, during reassembly you can lay a piece of shim stock or a feeler gauge on the case half prior to dropping the crankshaft in. Just a tip to save you some time adjusting things later.

If you could slot it, leave no chance of catywampes, not that it really can just a thought but yes def good idea

Most bottom ends I do are blown up so I tend to not take for granted that the crank was centered or that the bearings were sitting in the right spot.

My friend, your gifts extend far beyond your technical skills and knowledge! Your ability to teach that process as calmly and clearly along with a good dose of instilling confidence in a rank amateur like myself, is truly your greatest gift! I know I speak for many when I say I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for what you do.👍👍👍

Nice to see I'm not the only guy who's struggled with a bottom end. This is a first time I've ever seen you have a hard time with a bottom end. I'd say that's all to do with the birth of little TIN-BABY 👍. Congratulations guys 🙏

When going back together, I heat the bearings with a heat gun and drop them on the crank and let cool. I’ve been freezing the crank assembly in a deep freeze and heating the cases with limited success. From now on liquid nitrogen will be my go to freeze the crank. You can get a dip tube bottle from your welding supply place for a minimal amount of money and it makes assembly a ton easier for press fits. You will literally have 15-20 seconds once you assemble the cases to center the crank up. It will usually get you .006-.008 shrinkage.

I’ve been cutting my own intake to jug gaskets from gasket paper due to cost of OEM and the lack of quality of Hyway gaskets. It takes a few minutes to make one with an exacto knife and a cordless drill. I don’t rush saws as they are all my own, so a few minutes making a gasket like this saves me a ton of money.

From my experience, use a gas torch instead of electric heater, the cases get hot faster and hotter, it gives you more time closing the cases.

Still waiting on parts for that 272xp build. Then I will start looking at a 266xp. They are in ruff shape bottom end all siezed up but it wouldn't be fun if it wasn't a challenge. By the way does the 272xp have a seal carrier? If so where can I purchase one. It doesn't show up on any DPL schematics. TC Tinman Mahalo 🤙🤙🤙
