I’m really glad I saw this review before I bought the crank brothers pedals. I have the One Up composite pedals on my current bike which I really like, I am going to order the One Up Alloy pedals to put on my YT Capra when I receive it later this month. Cheers!

Did you contact Crankbrothers with your concerns, or just go straight to KZbin with this video? I've run three different pairs of Stamp 7's three day a week all year long mountain biking and really have had no problem. I have done a rebuild on some of them which is twenty something bucks an takes like 15 minutes. I've also done rebuilds on DMR Vaults, and Pedaling Innovations flat pedals. It's mountain biking, you need to service your stuff every once in a while. Last month I had a pretty hard crash giving me some stiches and broke a stamp 7 spindle in the process. I contacted them to see if I could buy a new spindle to rebuild them since they were past the warranty date. They responded by paying to ship them the broken pedal. A week later They sent a pair of new pedals back and the higher end multi-tool for the trouble. This was all past warranty date, and from my crash damage. If you like the One Up Pedal better great, but I can't handle that weird bearing knob when my foot hits it.

Yes I did reach out to them and they told me a re fresh kit should fix them. In "my opinion" this is unacceptable performance considering the cost of the pedals. I have been riding my whole life and never had a pedal fail this quickly. With that being said I still do love the pedals as I stated in this video, and perhaps I am just an idiot... However when I took the pedals apart I was shocked to see the insides... Again, maybe I'm just an idiot, but I don't think nor do I want to rebuild my pedals every few months of hard riding... If I was a pro racer that might be a normal thing, but I am far that level of riding/ abuse. Thanks for sharing you thoughts Forest, I really appreciate it, and Happy New Year!

I purchased the OneUp in oil slick color. In hindsight, I wish I had chosen the black one like you did. I guess you have to buy oil slick at least once 😂

I have the stamp 1's, they have a small bearing and a bushing, and the first thing I did when I got them was replace the bushing with a needle roller bearing, and replace all the pins with longer ones, its supper grippy now, I prefer composite pedals because they're usually a bit lighter, they're not as harsh on pedal strikes, and the pins don't thread into the pedal body, so if you damage the thread on the nut you just replace the nut.

Bearings are superior to nylon bushings. I had same issue with Straitline DeFacto. I have Pedaling Innovations Catalyst pedals, they use a bearing at the outside, but a bushing at the inside closest to the crank, had it for few years now, not wore it out. but seal got worn a bit. But just bushings is hopeless. it's best with bearings everywhere of course. But I use Catalyst pedals due to the long platform, for added support, regular pedals are tiny for my feet. I've seen that the composite version Stamp can failed, platform comes off the spindle, I've seen the platform snapped off at the tip on the Alu version. I've not tried them, but they seem too weak, and badly engineered, bushings is a bad choice.

I just ordered the stamp 7 in green splatter. They were just over $100 and I was afraid I'd miss out on the deal if I didn't order. Now that I've seen this video I am disappointed. I'm sick of companies doing this. They make their product look good on the outside but the inside is chinsky.

bearings in pedals mean nothing, bushings are far greater for pedals because they keep them thinner which is very important, stamp pedals are concave which is far superior to the convex oneup pedals, also the thinner and longer pins on the oneups will destroy your five ten shoes a hell of a lot quicker, if you take the time every few months to clean and regrease the stamp pedals they will last very long before you even need the refresh kit

I should have looked up reviews on the stamp 7 before purchasing. I just received mine so I can't attest to the durability, however I have purchased the small and large lime green splatter pedals and the lime green "splatter" is just that, a thin ribbon of green that is barely seen. This was the case on both the small and large sets. I sent the small back and when I received the large an hr ago I was disappointed and angry that it's the same cheesy "spatter" color. It is nothing compared to every pic I've seen of the splatter that has awesome coloration. I've tried to contact JAMES at crank bros but the phone just keeps ringing. Crank bros has misrepresented their products (to me) and since they are so expensive if they don't make it right I will Not purchase anything else with their name on it!

That sounds like a fair response to me, and I would also be pissed.... They cost to much money to not be super durable and look as advertised! Not even a year of riding and re-fresh kit being required is crazy to me consider I am by no means a pro rider... It is what it is though. All the best, Jay

@@jasonsmountainbikereviews so update, crankbros absolutely made things right. They sent me another pair with the correct paint job at no cost to me. They informed me that they changed the paint job on the splatter collection but most websites hadn't updated the pics in their advertising. Also, the pedals are awesome. Mine have taken a beating and are still spinning strong.

@@jasonsmountainbikereviews absolutely, crankbros was awesome. The only problem that I had was with thunder mountain bikes in Arizona. They didn't want to honor what crankbros decided to do for me. That's a whole other story though.

I was looking at these doing some research came across all this about them aswell and on one the MTB review media sites about them being bone dry inside not a bit grease either! I'm a heavier rider why was looking at them because the wider platform but would you believe they have a 90kg weight limit! This I was dumbfounded with reading this like wtf seriously!?

I went and got the one up alloy in grey but they don't have and play like these do in and out when pull them there just solid in place and spin real nice to my oil slick sam hills I had on! These are brand new and hated them! The pedals don't spin unless foots on them and felt they had such a weird offset making my right foot point out and was clipping the crank! All better now with the one ups! But that's 200 bucks for stupid pedals! The sam hill oil slicks haven't a mark on them and they are now discontinued so I'll put them back in the box for future like my old Rob warners lol
@EMTBAFV
@EMTBAFV 16 күн бұрын
I just double-checked the one-ups I got this week. They don't pull in and out; they're totally solid and only spin. But maybe when they tighten and pull up against the crank, it could just be taking up room for them to tighten or something? But I changed the pins out straight away for thicker ano blue pins as went and got these new Peatys monarch grips in grey with blue lock ring so should all look good n match!

Have the same problem on stamp 11 after 3 months and nearly complete intact pedals. I am shocked about the cheap construction from crankbrothers. For the high amount they take, this is unacceptable to me. Hope they re-engineer the pedals.

There’s nothing naive about expecting a $160.00 pedal to last at least a few years, it’s just a shit product made by a company who is comfortable cutting corners at the consumers expense.
