I just brought a US 2009 X5 diesel with 210k miles on it and it's running great. I don't plan on cracking the motor for away.

The chain failure happens without any symptoms, mine was running great to the last second. I guess yours have mostly highway miles but still, if you are going to keep the car, plan to do the chains

Hi Crank, I just wondering can you please make a video (If you will have time and the car in service) of E91 330d / 325d how to completlly replace timing chain with oil pump under the oil pan, and other things what should be done with it. But with engine in car. I want to make it myself on my E91 325d, I watch your videos how u did it on the E39 (the old type M57) and also when you take the engine out on the another car. I want to do it myself but I’m little scared I will not have enough space to take some part out if you understand me.

Please tell me my friend. I am a huge fan. Is it necessary to replace conrod bearing and crankshaft bearings just to protect the engine from failure? Is it enough just to replace the timing chain?

by the lastic cover it looks more like a n57, successor of m57

That is what I thought as well, but the chain is front on M57 and in the back N57. Being at the front makes it an M57

Thats weird that it broke a chain because I personally had a e70 with an m57 it currently has 240k miles on it, motor unopened.

Plot untwist, I purchased it brand new on a custom order and it had 36 miles on the odometer

This was a case of neglected car : the sludge etc. No wonder it broke. Definitely not bmw fault, this time

Not neglected for sure, I am the owner and everything has been maintained as it supposed to be since purchased brand new. The broken chain was a big surprise to happen at this mileage, but I give it to the frequent short trips thru the years, which I believe added up extra wear and tear on the timing chain components. Great job of CRANK to bring it back to life, now the engine works much quieter and smoother than before, even compared to when it was new

@@dan8789 Original BMW or Castrol 5W-30 LL04 changed every 7-8k miles. After the repair using Motul 5W-40 Specific LL04 by mechanic's recommendation
