I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for six MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Old man here. Been bass fishing over 55 years and feel I’ve gotten more good tips and info I can apply in my world (kayak fishing) than any other YT angling channel. I watch & learn from many channels, but I like the way you explain things, think “outside the box”, and share with us in a direct to-the-point manner. Thanks Matt! Always seeking angling knowledge and love learning. 👍🏼😎🎣

I've taken old small inline spinners, cut the hooks off, added a short leader or a longer clip swivel, and then rigged it to the a fluke. makes it look like the fluke is chasing a smaller bait fish.

Excellent. Great idea. The Redfish Magic spinnerbait has the large version of a Beetle Spin arm that comes with a colorado blade. I'm changing the blade out to a willow blade and attaching it to a 1.0 or 1.5 shad colored SB for these Fall roving schools of bass.

Oh boy........ so many things come to mind unfortunately theres a filter in place of allowing "X" number of characters per response.....lol. 'Son....that dog aint gonna hunt' best southern phrase I've heard. Dude..... have someone double check your mushroom pick-nzzz. If your gonna pedal pixie dust and chicken feet.....then its best not to smerk during the sales pitch.... All meant in good fun. All joking aside i agree with the logic behind.....your crankenstein.... Something different can be a great thing. My first eye opener to this was watching water wolf footage after trolling for walleye and numerous times those fish would bypass the lure and show 100% interest in the camera. Very telling about what we as anglers think will catch fish...... especially when the target species shows interest in the accessories......SMH Thanks for the vid, comments are meant in good fun.

Matt, have you tried slipping a piece of clear tubing onto the arm before making the loop? the tubing could be slid down over the loop and split ring which may keep the spinnerbait "above" the crank but not making it a firm connection. I will let you know. this may be a nice trick on shallow smallies on StClair this fall.

I am headed up to Clayton tonight to do some fishing and check out the Bass Open. I will build a couple of these before I go just to check them out. Love the idea. Back in the 80's I took a jointed floating Rapala, took the back half off and with a couple split rings was able to add a Worm hook and a Mann's Jelly Worm (we didn't have the selection of plastics that we have today). If I needed to throw it ini heavy cover I took the remaining treble hook off and went with only the worm hook and still had pretty good success with hook ups. The movement of the Rapala gave the worm a serious "S" motion. It was a ton of fun to fish. I think I am going to make one of those today also if I have any jointed floaters. I thought I had enough to do before I left today but no I will be busier lol, thanks.

I have been rigging the beetle spin type diy blades to my lipped and lipless cranks for several (5) years now (this vid is 6mo old atm). From my experience, you don't want to right it to a balsa crank. The clacking will absolutely tear up the back of the lure. You HAVE to use plastic cranks for this. Expect the paint finish to be worm away where it is getting hit by the blade. Using some of my old spinnerbaits is now on the list of gear mods to work on.

Will any crank work or must be a square bill? Also will any blades work or only willow?

Any crank and blade combo will work. Just need to figure out which blades work best with each crankbait

Thanks for sharing, definitely will try it. I have a question kind off of topic, on the long weekend we went to fish, relatively clear water ( 5 - 10 feet ) and found out some of the fish follow the lures and suddenly stop it in front of our faces ( Largemouth and Peacock Bass ), Sunny Day, 90 F, we tried different lures, silent ones, lousy ones, natural colors, dark colors, fast moving ones, slow ones and couldn't found a pattern. Maybe is a topic of a future episode. Got tip Matt.
